International Volunteer Day - December 5, 2016
 
International Volunteer Day is a global celebration of volunteers.  Designated by the United Nations in 1985, this special day promotes the work of volunteers at all levels, including local, national and international.  The theme this year is "Global Applause - give volunteers a hand".   Y our donations of time, talent, and treasure create new opportunities for thousands of families the world over.  Below are some wonderful examples of volunteerism.
 
 
  • Canadian volunteers are building a better world - Since April 2016, there have been 24 volunteers who travelled to share their experience and knowledge with overseas partners. Canadians have provided support in governance, strategic planning, co-operative assessment, actuarial advice, gender training and much more to strengthen the capacity of co-ops and credits unions in developing countries.
  • E-volunteers - People can make an impact in Canada too! Since April, nine individuals have been volunteering from Canada to assist overseas partners on website management, monitoring and evaluation tools, training manuals, gender assessment, and Spanish translation.
  • International Youth Internship Program - Eleven young Canadians are currently working on-location with partner organizations in Asia and Africa on gender, marketing and communications, monitoring and evaluation, governance and research.
  • Women's Mentorship Program (WMP) credit union hosts - Thank you to the 10 credit unions who hosted 11 women from Africa and Asia in June 2016. The program is a mutual learning exchange and professional development opportunity for women credit union managers to work at a Canadian credit union for a week.
  • CCA staff making a difference in their local community - 63% of CCA staff proudly volunteer in the Ottawa area.
