Operation Welcome Home borrowers David and Susan Rezendes

Veterans Day marked the first anniversary of MassHousing's launch of its Operation Welcome Home loan program for Massachusetts veterans.

Since its inception, Operation Welcome Home (OWH) has helped 36 veterans purchase a home with a total of $8.5 million in MassHousing financing. There are several other OWH loans in the Agency's pipeline. Continue reading...

Nov16-02Affordable Housing Trust Fund an Important Source of Financing for Veterans Housing
In recent years the AHTF has helped create 695 apartments for veterans, many who were formerly homeless

 
When the ribbon was recently cut for Bedford Green, a 69-unit housing community for formerly homeless veterans on the campus of the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, the new housing was the latest to receive financing from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF).
 
MassHousing provided $1.3 million for the project through the AHTF, which MassHousing manages on behalf of the state Department of Housing and Community Development . Continue reading...
Patriot Homes Completed in South Boston
Former police station converted into 24-unit housing community for Veterans


Veterans Day was a fitting day to cut the ribbon on the 24-unit Patriot Homes in South Boston, where a vacant, former police station was converted into new affordable housing for veterans.
 
Patriot Homes was developed through a partnership between the South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation  and Caritas Communities . The $12.7 million project began in March 2015 at the former D6 police station at the corner of D and Athens Streets. Continue reading...

Substance abuse and the inability to find quality, affordable housing is a combination that leaves many of our Veterans homeless or living in substandard housing, preventing them from being gainfully employed and productive members of society.

Nov16-04Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business to Work on MassHousing-Financed Project in Newton
An electrical contracting company owned by a disabled Veteran has received a $4 million contract to work on the renovation of the 199-unit Golda Meir House in Newton through the U.S. Small Business Administration's Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business Program.

The Massachusetts Operational Service Department's Supplier Diversity Office supports this category as one of the certification groups that Governor Baker expanded in November 2015. The Governor's executive order also created vendor categories for LGBT-owned and disabled-owned businesses.

Piquette and Howard Electric Service, Inc. will be working under general contractor Colantonio, Inc. MassHousing has committed $45.9 million for the major renovation of Golda Meir House, which is owned by the non-profit Jewish Community Housing for the Elderly.

Day-long event was be on October 29 at Worcester State College

MassHousing participated in Operation Money Wise, a daylong financial education seminar for active members of the military, Veterans, family members and Gold Star families on October 29 at Worcester State College.

The event featured topics on home buying, Veterans' benefits, basics of investing, dealing with debt, budget and goal-setting, retirement, money mentors and higher education. It was sponsored by American Consumer Credit Counseling, Inc. and the Massachusetts State Treasurer's Office of Economic Empowerment.
