EDUCATION
Adventure CAEP-The Chase across Asia: Meet the  Speaker & Chase Leaders

If you would like to experience one of the most original travel concepts ever, earn CME credits with CAEP and have the most fun you've ever had,
The Chase across Asia  is for you!

Chase Leaders

Vincent Poirier

I'm Vincent, "the entertainer" on The Chase across Asia. I have an identical twin brother and I am an Aviation Medicine specialist who also works at the Montreal General Hospital as an emergency physician. My team won the Vietnam portion of the 2007 edition of The Chase on our strength in the food challenges. Together with Rob and Christina, I will keep you entertained as we guide you through this crazy unforgettable experience. By the way, my race team name was "The Princess and the P" ... Guess who was the Princess?!

Rob Primavesi
I'm Rob, "the logistician" behind the challenges you will face on
The Chase across Asia. I work as an emergency physician at the McGill University Health Centre. Competing in the 2007 production of
The Chase with my team
The Tortoise and the Hair, I proved the adage that "slow and steady wins the race", placing second overall.
Together with Vincent and Christina, we will guide you through the best experience of cultural immersion ever!

Christina Tong
I'm Christina, "the consultant" on The Chase across Asia . I work as a family doctor in Montreal. My roots are Chinese and I have a particular love for South East Asia. I've travelled extensively in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China and Indonesia and look forward to returning for a fun, competitive trip, different from anything I've experienced in Asia!
Together with Vincent and Rob, we will guide you through challenging situations with plenty of time to enjoy the sites, the foods, the people and the culture.

Lead Instructor and 1st Chase Team

Connie LeBlanc and Bob Chan
I'm  Connie , "the professional" on The Chase across Asia. I work as an emergency physician at the QEII in Halifax. As the lead presenter, I have designed a program that includes workshops, practical tips, administration, travel medicine, communication skills, teaching, wellness and fresh topics in EM practice. The sessions will be interactive and include local content to broaden our scope in both medicine and life.

And, I'm Bob, "the connoisseur" on The Chase across Asia. I am a serious foodie and bon vivant who is game for anything and who loves to travel. Also, a serious dog lover, but not in a culinary way!
RESEARCH
New Abstract Category: Quality Improvement & Patient Safety (QIPS)

The new QIPS category is designed to foster the scholarly dissemination of
projects that aim to improve the care provided to patients, on a local or broader level. The focus of the projects can be any or all of the domains of healthcare quality. Projects that have used methods from the science of quality improvement will be given higher consideration. Projects that used sound design and implementation but that were not successful will still be given just as much credit, as there is tremendous value in learning from what has not worked in other similar settings.

The top QIPS abstracts will be invited to the CAEP 2018 "Brag & Steal" session (7 minute presentation + 3 minute Q&A).  As well, the highest-ranked abstract submitted by a CAEP member will receive the QIPS Abstract Award.

Ontario Ministry of Health: 2,000 More Beds Will Be Available This Year

"Ontario is making over 2,000 additional beds and spaces available this year to improve access to care for patients and families, and reduce wait times in hospitals, at home and in the community."

As well, "the province will also help patients continue to get the care they need as they transition from hospital to home by:
  • Providing 207 affordable housing units for seniors who need additional community supports when they are discharged from hospital.
  • Creating 503 transitional care spaces outside of hospital for up to 1,700 patients who don't require care in a hospital.
  • Reopening 150 beds at Humber River Hospital's former Finch site and 75 beds at University Health Network's former Hillcrest site to provide care for those transitioning out of hospital."
