Images of Miriam, Monday, Dec. 12, 6:30pm
Community Room

Ron St. Martin will present a slide show of particular artworks of Miriam (the ancient Hebrew name for Mary circa 1200 BC).  These works of art transcend cultures, times, and particular historical/political settings.  The presenter's hope is that the audience will come to a deeper understanding and appreciation of our common human dignity by contemplating these diverse works of art.  The presentation is non-denominational, free and open to the public.

A MESSAGE FROM THE NEW TEEN LIBRARIAN
Hi!  I am Rebecca Ott, the new Teen Librarian at the Tiverton Public Library.  I am a new resident to Tiverton, having recently moved here in August.  I received my Master of Library Science from the University of Rhode Island in December of 2014 and I have been a Teen Librarian in Johnston, Rhode Island for the past three years.  My favorite Young Adult authors are Jandy Nelson, Jennifer E. Smith, and Jenny Han.  My all time favorite book is a tie between A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.  Beyond books I geek out about: all things Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Marvel, Gilmore Girls, and The Boston Red Sox.  I am excited for the opportunity to work at the Tiverton Public Library. I am very much looking forward to working with the teens in the Tiverton community as their new Teen Librarian!

Murals for Library and Children's Room
The Tiverton Library Foundation's project to create large ceramic sculptural and mosaic murals that depict the essence of Tiverton has begun.  The murals will ultimately grace the Lobby and the Children's Room.  To get started, John and Letitia Carter have donated $10,000 and the Newport County Fund has awarded a grant of $2,500.  In the New Year, ceramic artists Mika Seeger and Peter Geisser will conduct workshops for children and adults to gather input about images that should be included.  Later, the community will learn how to make personal mosaic tiles that will be incorporated into the design.  Each phase will proceed as grants and donations are received.
