  • Five percent of sales at Los Altos, Palo Alto, Redwood City and San Mateo Whole Foods Market stores on December 7th supports CDF Firefighters Benevolent Fund
  • Representatives available for photos/interviews
Whole Foods Market stores on the Peninsula -
Los Altos, Palo Alto, Redwood City and San Mateo -- are teaming up to support the CDF Firefighters Benevolent Fund. The public can contribute by shopping at the stores that day.

Five percent of total sales at Los Altos, Palo Alto, Redwood City and San Mateo stores will be donated to CDF Firefighters Benevolent Fund.

The CDF Firefighters Benevolent Fund supports the families of firefighters in times of financial need or hardship. Its further function is to assist burn victims and their families and to support research and studies on occupational hazards and exposures unique to firefighting. In-store programming complements the fundraising effort. Local firefighters will be in each of the stores helping to bag groceries, and you might see a fire truck as well. Shoppers can talk with firefighters on December 7th.

Representatives from CDF Firefighters Benevolent Fund will be available December 7th from 10 am - 4 pm. Addresses of locations involved:
  • Palo Alto, 774 Emerson Street, Palo Alto
  • Los Altos, 4800 El Camino Real, Los Altos
  • Redwood City, 1250 Jefferson Avenue, Redwood City
  • San Mateo, 1010 Park Place, San Mateo

NAMES OF SIX VICTIMS RELEASED; FIRE NOW 42 PERCENT CONTAINED NEAR GATLINBURG

On Monday, city officials in Gatlinburg will continue a damage assessment of roads, infrastructure and public works. The city is preparing to open for business later this week.

Property owners, business owners, renters and lease holders will continued to be allowed on their properties from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. The curfew in Gatlinburg remains in effect from 6 p.m. - 6 a.m.

The Water Boil Advisory is still in effect for Gatlinburg, with the exception of the areas east of City Hall.  READ FULL STORY

DEATH TOLL FROM OAKLAND FIRE REACHES 36, COULD CONTINUE TO RISE
ABC NEWS, 12/5/2016

The death toll from the Oakland, California, warehouse fire has now climbed to 36 as authorities continue to discover bodies - some of them of teens possibly younger than 17 - after a blaze broke out during a dance party in a building that housed artist studios.

The Oakland Fire Department has searched 70 percent of the charred building so far but had to stop this morning because of unsafe conditions, Fire Chief Teresa Deloach Reed told " Good Morning America" today. It plans to resume its search for victims later today.   READ FULL STORY
