Parent-Teacher Conferences - Next Week
 On Thursday, Nov. 2, H-F faculty will be available for Parent-Teacher Conferences during an afternoon session from 1:30-3:30 p.m. and from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the evening session to meet one-on-one with parents and guardians. In order to allow teachers time to prepare for the meetings, students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. that day.  The complete academic schedule for the week of conferences is:
    • Monday, Oct. 30 - 7-period day; regular 50-min. classes (Periods 1-2-3-4-5-6-7)
    • Tuesday, Oct. 31 - 7-period day; regular 50-min. classes (Periods 1-2-3-4-5-6-7)
    • Wednesday, Nov. 1 - Regular Wednesday Block Day (Periods 1-7-6-5-4)
    • Thursday, Nov. 2 - Regular Thursday Block Day with student dismissal at 11:30 a.m. (Periods 1-2-3)
    • Friday, Nov. 3 - Institute Day (No school for students)
H-F conferences use a format known as arena conferencing, instead of an individual-classroom format. Faculty and staff will all be located in the North Building's Fieldhouse seated by department and will be available to meet on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointments are necessary. HFU Workshop on Asthma - Tonight!

 

  • Asthma Management: What Every Parent of an Asthmatic Child Should Know - Tonight at 7 p.m.!
    One in 13 Americans suffers from asthma. This workshop - provided by the Respiratory Health Association - will share how to help your child, yourself or anyone else in your family better manage their asthma. Learn the early warning signs of asthma, how to avoid common triggers, proper medication use, and how to respond during an asthma emergency Please join us tonight - Wednesday, Oct. 25 - at 7 p.m. in the TLC.

 

IHSA State Football Playoff Game: Oct. 27
The Varsity Viking Football team begins its run for the IHSA Class 8A State Final with a game versus Lake Park High School this Friday, Oct. 27, at H-F Stadium. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. and gates will open at 6:15 p.m. Tickets ($5/person) are now on sale at the Campus Store, located inside the South Building Cafeteria. Go, Vikings!

 

ECAP Trip to Lewis U. for Freshmen & Sophomores: Oct. 31
H-F's Early College/Career Awareness Program is sponsoring a college trip to Lewis University in Romeoville, especially designed for our 9th and 10th Graders. Freshmen and sophomores are encouraged to sign up for this free trip - set for Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. - to check out a college campus and see what college is all about! Students will hear about the basics of college life, tour the campus, visit Lewis' aviation department and enjoy lunch. Hurry! Space is limited; pick up your permission slip in the Guidance Office today.

Fall Musical: Sister Act

FALL MUSICAL: SISTER ACT
Sister Act, H-F Theatre's fall musical, is the feel-good musical comedy based on the hit 1992 film that has audiences jumping off their feet! Featuring original music by Alan Menken, this uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, Sister Act will leave you breathless. Directed by Mr. Rose, Sister Act will run Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Mall Auditorium. Recommended for ages 12 & up. Tickets ($10/adult, $8/student/senior) will be available at the door.

IHSA State: Cross Country
  • Congratulations to  both our Boys and Girls Cross Country teams, which both advanced to IHSA Sectionals in Granite City this weekend! The girls team finished in 4th Place at Regionals, while the boys team finished 5th.

Field Hockey player named All-Star  
Congratulations to Gillian Vinson, who was selected as one of the state's top girls field hockey players this year and named to the Illinois All-Star Field Hockey roster! The 2nd Annual Windy City Field Hockey High School All-Star Classic will be held Sunday, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m. at Northwestern University's Lakeside Astroturf Field. Outstanding Individual Performances for H-F Mathletes
Congratulations to the H-F Mathletes for some outstanding performances in their meet at Lincoln-Way Central last Thursday.  The team was led by senior Allie Mangel, who took 1st Place in the SWSC with a perfect 50 out of 50 points on her presentation on Graph Theory. Allie also scored perfect on her other two competitions. Sophomore Janellie Roach not only scored perfect on three competitions, but also scored 45 out of 50 points on her presentation on Equations Additionally, senior Joey Humphrey and freshman Jordan Bennett-Clayton had perfect competitions, scoring a perfect 10 out of 10 on each of their three competitions.  Also earning at least one perfect score during the competition were senior Tyler Van Kley, junior Jimmy Humphrey, and sophomores Cherna Jeanty and Matti Schneider The team competes next on  Nov. 15  at Lincoln-Way West.

Senior named a Wendy's High School Heisman
Congratulations to senior Cameron Williams for being named a School Winner in the  High School Heisman scholarship competition, sponsored by Wendy's.  Since 1994, Wendy's and the Heisman Trophy Trust have been  honoring more than 600,000 of the nation's most esteemed students.
