Eclipse 2017

Eclipse Tickets to attend the August 21, 2017, eclipse event will be on sale soon. While this is not common practice for events at Bald Knob, visitors can attend this event only with the advanced purchase of a ticket. This is necessary to manage the number of people and cars at the cross on that date, so all visitors will have a good experience.

Two different levels of tickets will be available:

  1. Casual Eclipse Viewers: $50 for each ticket. This will include shuttle transportation to Bald Knob from Alto Pass area, plus tshirt, eclipse glasses, water bottle, and other items still being determined.
  2. Serious Eclipse Viewers: $250 for each ticket. This will include parking at the cross for your vehicle, so you can bring telescope, camera, and other equipment. This also includes all the items in the package, plus golf cart assistance to transport your equipment to your assigned area. Electricity will not be provided; please plan to bring battery pack if needed. A maximum of two (2) companion tickets may be purchased for $50 each with the purchase of a $250 ticket.

More information and ticket sales will be available soon.

Bush Hog Received!

For the past two months, we have shared that one of our top needs was a bush hog. I am delighted to report that we received a donation of a 4' bush hog on November 3rd. At this time, the donor is anonymous, but we want to say a huge THANK YOU for your support.

Water Update

I'm also glad to report that our cistern has been drained, cleaned, and repaired - and for the first time in a very long time, the cistern is filled to the brim with water!! There are still additions we need to make for our water system to be highly effective, but this is a HUGE step in having a much more adequate water system.

Roof & Siding

Partially due to an insurance claim from some storm damage, the Welcome Center now has a new roof and new siding. Significant repairs were made to the outside framing and structure in the process of siding and re-roofing, and this gives the Welcome Center a much needed face-lift on the outside.

Most Current Needs

Golf Carts: We are in need of at least one, preferable two, golf carts to serve dual purposes. There are frequently visitors that cannot walk up to the cross. We do allow them to drive up, but as the number of visitors increase, having more than one car at a time up at the cross significantly affects the meditative environment. In addition, we need a cart that can double as a cargo cart to transport chairs, coolers, small equipment, etc., to and from the cross.

Welcome Center Volunteers: We have a great cadre of volunteers that donate a multitude of hours to host the welcome center, and we need additional people so we can be open 7 days per week. If you can give a few hours per week or per month, or would just like more information about what is involved, contact me at director@baldknobcross.com.

Volunteer Spotlight

Gary & Judy Billiot from Marion, Illinois.
Gary is a retired United Methodist pastor and they volunteer together approximately 2 days per month. They bring valuable information about the Native American heritage in the area, and make a wonderful team for hosting the welcome center!
Planning to Get Engaged Soon?

If you are considering "popping the question" soon, we have a new brick at the foot of the cross that you might like to help. A brick that has the inscription "Will you marry me?" is located on the Hope/West side in row 33.
