Thanksgiving is next week (!!!) and we would like to take this opportunity to thank our community of book lovers
for embracing us over the past 18 months. The support you've given An Unlikely Story Bookstore and Café and the Second Story is greatly appreciated. We have enjoyed meeting you at events, talking books and engaging in conversation over coffee. We are so happy to be a local gathering place where
all can come together to celebrate stories, share ideas, and meet authors and illustrators who inspire us.
Author and bookstore owner Ann Patchett put it best, "I would like to build a place where people would feel cherished for their life experiences, where people could learn from history and be comforted by art. A place where babies are welcome, children can play, and teenagers feel respected. A place where people who are pulled in a hundred different directions can find a moment's peace, and old people would be offered a comfortable chair to sit while they read a book."

It's not often we are lucky enough to have BOTH the author and illustrator visit us, but we hit the jackpot with the creators of Lucy's Lovey! Both Betsy and Chris will be here for a super special storytime, and adults and kids alike are encouraged to bring their very own special lovey to the event. You can also post a picture to our Facebook or Instagram page with the hashtag #WhosYourLovey. After the storytime, we'll create some lovey labels and have a Smelly Baby Scavenger Hunt!

Hardcover Fiction:
Count Alexander Rostov has been sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol Hotel across from the Kremlin. How will he thrive?
Russian history, interesting characters and wonderful writing creates a fabulous novel.
Hardcover Non-Fiction:
This compelling look at Winston Churchill begins when he is in his early twenties, a self-assured young man, convinced that one day he will be Prime Minister once he proves himself on the battlefield. Churchill arrives in South Africa in 1899, as a journalist covering the British colonial war against the Boers. His capture, escape, and grueling journey back to free his fellow hostages are fascinating.
Paperback:
A lovely, heartwarming story about a librarian who can find the perfect book for everyone, but cannot find true love. Determined to make a new life for herself, Nina moves to a sleepy village many miles away. There she buys a van and transforms it into a bookmobile, a mobile bookshop that she drives from neighborhood to neighborhood, changing one life after another with the power of storytelling.
Young Adult:
by Marissa Meyer
Marissa Meyer strikes fairy-tale gold once again with this Alice in Wonderland prequel. Long before she set heads rolling in Wonderland, the Queen of Hearts was just a kind, young girl named Catherine, who dreamed of baking and falling in love. With colorful scenery and a foreboding sense of dread, this tale propels itself along to an absolutely heart-breaking end!

Christmas is for Kids and An Unlikely Story are happy to partner together to help fill wishes in our community. We are especially happy to hear that so many of the children have specific wishes for books. Our customers can help make these wishes come true by choosing an ornament from the tree in the store and buying a book for a child. The goal for the program is to have a book for every one of the 1000 children they project to help this Christmas. For more information on the program, visit their website:

We are thrilled to be offering an outdoor holiday market for the very first time! We are offering the market this year on a trial basis to determine what the interest level is from local vendors and shoppers. We hope this event will be a great success! The market will take place from December 13-23 from 5:00-8:00pm each night. The market stalls will be located in the overflow parking lot across the street from the bookstore.
All interested candidates must fill out a holiday market application to be considered for this unique event, which
can be found on our website. Vendors who are interested in selling food items, must also complete a temporary Farmers Market application for the town. All forms with their associated application payment must be dropped off or mailed into the store to the attention of Shaelyn Germain. Questions about the holiday market can be directed to
shaelyn@anunlikelystory.com.
