PLAT HOLIDAY SHOP The 2016 Holiday Shop at Plat Elementary is quickly approaching!  Doors are set to open  Tuesday, November 29th and Wednesday, November 30th during regular school hours.  Our volunteers are already working to stuff every stocking and tie every bow.  For those of you that are new to the Holiday Shop, it is a great event.  This shop gives students an opportunity to independently choose inexpensive, high quality gifts for family, friends and even pets!  The Holiday Shop is optional for students to participate and is provided as an extra special event for the children.
BUT WE NEED HELP!!!!  Volunteers are needed to assist students as they shop and help them to maintain their budgets.  We also need help setting up the shop in the CLAM on  Monday, Nov. 28th after school.  If you would like to help or have any questions, please contact Chris Gartzke at  mrsgartzke@yahoo.com or  414-659-0193.   Thank You, RAPT Volunteers.   CLICK HERE FOR THE PLAT BUDGET SHEET.

GINGERBREAD HOUSE TOY COLLECTION AT PLAT - ‘Tis the season to think of others, and at Plat School, it has become a holiday tradition. Instead of students exchanging gifts with each other, once again Plat School students have the opportunity to donate new toys (unwrapped) to the Gingerbread House in West Bend – a program of the Youth and Family Project, Inc. of Washington County to benefit less fortunate children.  Anytime after Thanksgiving  Day until Thursday, December 8th, students can bring new toys to Plat School, and place them under the Christmas tree. The toys will be delivered to the Gingerbread House in West Bend. From there, toys are then given to less fortunate children in Washington County in time for Christmas.  Here is a wonderful opportunity to show your child how to show concern for others. If you are able to, shop together, talk about thinking of others, select a toy, then have your child bring it to school (unwrapped) and place it under the Christmas tree.  Thank you for your generosity.  Sincerely, The Plat School Staff

RAIDER MADNESS Raider Madness is on Dec ember 9th at  7:00 this year. Raider Madness is our "kickoff" to our basketball and cheerleading season. There are games, prizes and tons of fun. We are in need of donations for raffles and/or prizes for the kids. Please send any donations to Mr. Shelsta or Mrs. Hose. Thank you.
We are excited to offer the Ski/Snowboard Club at Little Switz again this year through Richfield School!   Ski/Snowboard club is for students in grades 3-8 .   Event dates will be:  Wednesdays: Dec 21, Jan 4, Jan 11, Jan 18!  More information and sign up forms can be found on our club webpage at:  http://bit.do/snowrocks   .  The due date has been extended.  All forms and payment are due by Tuesday, Nov. 29 to Mrs. Weston!
SKI/SNOWBOARD CLUB
Everything will be about the same as last year - bus transportation after school TO the hill will be an extra cost that will be charged AFTER the ski club ends (last year each student paid $2.20 per ride), you can ski or snowboard, 1 hour lessons are available, rental is available, food is extra if purchased at the hill. A few modifications from last year are that Little Switz requires you to pay for all 4 nights (whether you attend or not), the Loyalty card can not be used for a friend and they excluded Fri night discounts with the Loyalty card.

Basketball schedules should be finalized now -- check with your coaches if you have not received games for Dec or Jan.

If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Weston, Ski/Snowboard Club Advisor, at  westonL@richfield.k12.wi.us.

SPIRIT WEAR IS HERE!!
Are you looking to order spirit wear for yourself or your child?  We have an online shop open until November 27th.  If you are purchasing as a Holiday gift for your child, please make note of this when you check out so we can be sure to have you pick it up or send it home discreetly with your child. Check out the links below for the Panther wear, the Raider wear or the District wear. Orders will be in before winter break.

Watch for our next First Class Student during the week of December 5, 2016.

SCHOOL CLOSING LETTER
Winter is coming.  Please read the attached letter regarding procedures for delaying school or calling school off due to inclement weather.

Giving Thanks!

As we prepare for a long weekend with family and friends, I would like to thank all of you for taking time to express gratitude towards others and remind you to also take a moment to appreciate yourself and all the good you do each day.  Here are a few more “teaching gratitude” ideas for you to enjoy! According to Wendy Young, the author of Kidlutions: Solutions for Kids, gratitude is something we can teach each day!  We can accentuate the positives.  If we consciously tell our minds to look at the “bright side” of things, we will notice more positive occurrences in our lives and will not focus as much on the negative aspects.  Also, when we focus on thankfulness or gratitude, we will start searching for more to be grateful for.  When we pay attention to positive happenings, we might just find we have more positive things happen to us! More information regarding gratitude and how to teach it, as well resources for doing so, can be found on the following link: http://kidlutions.blogspot.pt/2016/11/3-reasons-to-encourage-gratitude-in.html?mc_cid=e9160454ad&mc_eid=[UNIQID]  Here are a few that stood out to me!

  • Start a gratitude journal for the family.  Leave it in a special place where everyone has access to it, so it can be filled in when someone in the family deserves some extra praise!
  • Make your own Thankful Tree by hanging a branch in the house and attaching a piece of string to it.  Then leave small pieces of hole-punched paper out and add kind statements or “thank you” notes to the string when someone in the family does something caring or helpful.

  • Thankful Tablecloth: Get a tablecloth you don’t mind writing on. Have the family members write thankful statements on the cloth and use it for special family dinners or anytime you need some extra gratitude in your day

Finally, I would like to share another resource with you that really caught my eye.  It is simple, yet effective!  It is titled Eight Great Ways to Be Thankful—Click here to learn more! http://kidlutions.blogspot.pt/2016/11/eight-great-ways-to-be-thankful-for.html?mc_cid=e13f98dc55&mc_eid=[UNIQID] Have a safe and happy weekend!

Thank you, Kali Restivo, School Counselor
