Commissioner Proud, Sheriff Rodenberg and Judge Herman say goodbye
 As the year draws to a close, we bid goodbye to three long-time public servants: Commissioner
Bob Proud, Sheriff
Tim Rodenberg and Common Pleas Judge
Thomas Herman.
Commissioner Proud is completing his seventh term in office. He first took office in January 1989 at the age of 30, at the time the youngest commissioner in the State of Ohio. He is looking forward to being a full-time stay-at-home dad to his young son, Michael, 2. His wife, Rebecca, is a professor at UC Clermont.
 Sheriff Rodenberg has served as sheriff since January 1997. Previously, he was an Assistant Prosecutor for Clermont County, and before that, he was in private practice. He plans to indulge in his favorite hobby, cooking, and stay active in the community. He is married to Domestic Relations Judge Kathleen Rodenberg, and they have two adult sons.
Judge Herman began his career as an Assistant Prosecutor for
Clermont County for 6 years, and also served as Assistant Public Defender in Clermont County for 5 years. He began his judicial experience as a Judge Pro Tem of the Clermont County Court.
 In 1991, Judge Herman was elected to the Clermont County Municipal Court, where he presided from 1992 until his election to the Common Pleas bench in 2010. He has been married
for 41 years to Laurie and has nine children, and three grandchildren.
He is looking forward to traveling, golf and spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Meet the amazing Rice family
|

When we visited the busy home of Dan and Viola Rice recently, we were amazed at just how spotless it was. You would never guess that nine children from the ages of 9 to 14 live there. Dan and Viola are the parents of six children -- including five who were adopted. They are also caring for three children in foster care. Over the years, they have worked closely with Clermont County Children's Protective Services and have welcomed 42 foster care children into their home.

HOLIDAY CRAFT BAZAAR: Visit Clermont DD from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Dec. 14 as the adults from the Community Integration Program present a Holiday Craft Bazaar. Pick up a gift for a loved one or a decoration for your home or office! A bake sale will be available during the Bazaar, offering treats from recipes shared during Clermont DD cooking classes.  HOLIDAYS AT THE PROMONT HOUSE: The
Greater Milford Area Historical Society will host its Annual Holiday Open House at Promont 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec.18.
The event is free and open to the public. Promont is located at 906 Main St., Milford.
Each year Promont's holiday elves create a magical wonderland within the house. This year's theme is Traditional Victorian and will feature two distinctive holiday tree additions -- an inverted tree and a mannequin tree. The upside-down holiday tree traces its history back to the 7th century to Boniface, an English Benedictine monk who, according to legend, used the triangular shape of the tree as a symbol of the Trinity. The mannequin tree is a complete surprise -- come see it at the open house!

SEPTIC REHAB: Clermont County Public Health is now accepting applications for the 2017 Septic Rehab Program. The program provides money to low-income homeowners to repair or replace failing septic systems. Application deadline is Dec. 30. For more information, or to download an application, visit

 OVI GRADUATION: The Clermont County Municipal OVI Court Specialized Docket held its 24th graduation ceremony on Nov. 18. The event, presided over by OVI Court Judge Kevin T. Miles, featured four participants who successfully completed the program. Sheriff Tim Rodenberg was featured as guest speaker. The OVI Court Specialized Docket is dedicated to rehabilitating high risk multiple OVI offenders through a combination of intensive community control supervision, frequent judicial monitoring, and specialized substance abuse treatment.
COURT MANAGER: Gary Scalf, Court Administrator for Clermont County Common Pleas Court, recently completed coursework in court management. He is now one of more than 300 Certified Court Managers working in the State of Ohio. Offered through a partnership between the Ohio Supreme Court's Judicial College and the National Center for State Courts' Institute for Court Management, the Court Management Program addresses specific training needs of court leaders. Each court professional attained the credential by completing a three-year program of courses, including the purposes and responsibilities of courts, caseflow management, and court performance standards. LEADERSHIP ACADEMY: Registration is now open for the Clermont County Organizational Leadership Academy by Ohio State University Extension Clermont County. The Academy is designed for elected officials from county, municipal, and township governments, and appointed individuals serving on local government committees, zoning and planning commissions, school boards or task forces. * Staff is collecting mittens, gloves and hats for adults and kids at the YWCA House of Peace and the James Sauls Homeless Shelter through Dec. 31. Donations are appreciated.
