December 2016

Happy December! The holidays are upon us and it is one of my favorite times of year. A time for giving and a time for reflection. As I look back at 2016 there were many events that will make this year in particular go down as a memorable one.

For me, one of the things I always reflect on is the blessings that I get every day at the studio. I love the community that has been created here. I can't tell you how many times, when I tell people what I do, they compare it to the show 'Dance Moms'. I take pride in telling them that that show is not a representation of what goes on at Ballare. I am so thankful for all of the families who have chosen the studio for their entre into dance education. I also comment on the fabulous, passionate instructors who really care about the dancers personally and what goes on on in the classroom. I am thankful for Mia and Brigham who do their best every day to make sure that things run seamlessly. And this fall in particular I was extremely grateful for Mike and his help repairing the studio, the bathroom, and for his coordination getting new carpet installed (which will happen over winter break!).

I hope you are able to reflect on all your blessings this year. And I hope that a great dance education for your family is one of them.

Parent Visitation Week!

DECEMBER 10th-17th, 2016

Wonder what your dancers have been up to in their class? Now is your chance to come sit-in and observe what we have been working on. You might even have a chance to join in and learn a new step your dancer is working on. Then you can help them practice their steps and keep stretching over Winter Break. There will be refreshments offered during Parent Visitation as well!

For those of you who are new, Ballare Teatro has two original performances that we produce in alternating years. In even years we have our production highlighting tap and jazz, The Excellent Adventure!  In odd years we perform our ballet, Isabella Saves the World!

Isabella Saves the World was written by the dancers at Ballare Teatro over 14 years ago. It is the story of the world being stuck in perpetual winter and the girl who risks life and limb to venture out and bring the seasons back. In the process battles a group of Soldiers, encounters the evil Snow Sorcerer, and travels through an enchanted forest to find the Evergreen Elder

Ballare Teatro Studio Hours

We wanted to touch base with all of our families, before the lovely Minnesota Winters set in, about studio hours. The studio is open for business 15 minutes prior to the first class each day. We don't have any staff there that is 'on the clock' until that time.

Please make note that the studio will remain locked until 15 minutes before classes begin.

On the flip side make sure that your dancer is in class on time. Dancers should be ready to enter the studio and dance at their class start time. When people arrive late, not only is it distracting for the dancers who were on time, but it throws a wrench in your child's dance education. They are not getting properly warmed up. It is studio policy that if a dancer is more than 10 minutes late to class would be asked to sit out.

We understand that sometimes things come up that prevent you from getting to the studio on time (and on time means a little early so dancers can get changed, their shoes on and use the restroom). But please make every effort to get your dancer into the classroom at the start of their class.

Now let's all stay warm!!!

Tap Into Nutrition

By: Julie McMahon, CHHC

Food First with Nutrition Julie
The holiday season is here and with it comes a variety of food and drinks that may not be on your normal menu.  If you are feeling stuffed, bloated and know that you've made some questionable choices, don't worry!  There's always a solution!  One of my favorite strategies is to have a day of detoxifying smoothies to undo any damage done.  The recipe below is one of my favorite holiday time smoothies.  Cranberries and apples are a perfect detoxifying duo this time of year.  Full of antioxidants, cranberries are excellent to support the immune system and assist in cleansing your lymphatic system.  The sweetness of the apple balances the tart cranberry taste and provides the fiber to keep everything moving out.  Add in the super alkalizing benefits of spinach and the anti-inflammatory benefits of ginger and you have a concoction that will have you feeling energetic and ready to tackle the next holiday season task or event.  Wishing you a very happy and healthy holiday season!

Cranberry Zing Smoothie
1 cup raw cranberries, fresh or frozen
1 cup frozen mixed berries
1 red apple
1 handful fresh spinach
1" piece of ginger, peeled
2 cups unsweetened coconut milk

Place all ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until smooth.  Makes 2 servings.

Winter Weather Closing Policy
Just a reminder that the in the event of poor weather, our policy is if Minneapolis Public Schools close, or if the cancel after school activities, we are also closed. On Saturdays, we will make the call. In general, we don't like to cancel class, but this has proven to be an easy way for people to know we are closed.

In this event, we will post on Facebook, Twitter, Voicemail and the website. We will also post on WCCO. We will attempt to call if we have enough time. Please check those places for closing information.

There are no make-up classes for winter weather closing, but you can make up the class in another class day/time. Just e-mail Ann to let her know when you will be making the class up so she can give the instructor a heads up.
Have a Great December!
Sincerely,

Ann Williams
