Happy to Help at St. Joseph's Hospital
Cameron Iaquinta and Maegan Corriveau helping at the St. Joseph's Event.
Early in December, we donned aprons, picked up brushes, answered so many questions, and smiled big holiday smiles at the St. Joseph Hospital's Holiday Event.  The children did most of the "work" as we just did a little directing.  There is no thank you as rewarding as a child's smile, and our students have felt that happiness!
We are so pleased that Mrs. Whitney Tave,  Community Health Educator at  St. Joseph Hospital invited us.  See you at the Easter Event, Mrs. Tave!

 Thanks, to all who helped.
The  Caritas Christi Team was able to shop for six area children in need of Christmas this year.  Thank you to all who helped with the Hearts to Hoops Basketball Tournament raising funds for the presents. Thank you to our shoppers, drivers, and gift wrappers.  It takes a team to make Christmas happy happen!  This year's effort was amazing!

Oh, Christmas Tree!
Nashu a Cathol ic had its traditional white and blue tree at the Festival of Trees  in Nashua.  Each year the Hunt Building organizes this fundraiser for the maintenance and renovation of the Hunt Building, a Nashua landmark on Library Hill.  The Festival enchants hundreds of visitors from the Holiday Stroll, after Thanksgiving, to the Symphony House Tours, and onto the Hunt Gala.   Nashua Catholic is pleased to be a small part of this community event.
Thank you, Mrs. Bellavance, for your work at the Hunt and for inviting us to join the Festival!

Christmas Blessings to All!

New in Our Math Classes
This year the students have access to a wonderful online math practice site called IXL.

Thus far our 7th grade has spent more than 100 hours, answering more than 20,000 math questions, while mastering 25 7th grade topics, 10 8th grade topics and 25 Algebra topics.

IXL has been and is an excellent online practice tool, helping our students achieve higher performance in math.

The certificates are printed out in my room.

STEAM for December
This school year, Nashua Catholic continues their STEAM seminar series. On Nov. 16, we were visited by Professor Thomas Shea, Director of the Center for Cellular Neurobiology & Neurodegeneration research laboratory at UMass-Lowell. Dr. Shea presented recent research using mouse brain cells to understand potential remedies for dementia and cortical damage.
The experiment discussed connected a digital video camera and a robotic arm as sensory input and motor output. The research team was able to train the collection of brain cells to direct the arm to follow a target (that it could see via the camera). The robotic arm followed the moving object with 90% accuracy, which is better than most people.

Thank you, Dr. Shea, for sharing your research with us at Nashua Catholic.

Athletics - Wildcat Update

Winter schedules are posted on the NC web site.

December has been a great month for our Wildcat athletes. Where the weather is getting cold outside, the action has already started to heat up. Our boys and girls basketball teams have been playing hard and working through a very tough schedule. With the season beginning a week earlier than last year, our teams have already played five games through two and a half weeks. The boys are making every game interesting with four of the five games being decided by less than ten points.
The girls are getting closer and closer to their first victory, but have been victims of an incredibly tough start. All five of the girls opponents this year comprise the top five teams in the division to this point.
Wrestling had an amazing first meet of the year against Pelham. With a big team victory in the meet, and some fantastic individual performances, this team is poised for greatness. Having a team full of first year wrestlers may provide some challenges, but with the effort put forward in practice, and the determination and will to get better, our Wildcat wrestlers are hungry for another victory.

12th Annual Nashua Catholic Holiday Tournament
Christmas is quickly approaching, and the students can't wait to get out on vacation. During the Christmas vacation each year, Nashua Catholic hosts a 10 team girls' basketball tournament for local teams. This year, the tournament will hold teams spanning three different Tri-County Athletic divisions from Southern New Hampshire. Our tournament is a big fundraiser for the athletic department, and with every tournament, it takes a lot of moving parts to make it a success.
We are now holding sign-ups for any person(s) who may be interested in volunteering to help out. Volunteer positions include admissions and 50/50 raffle sellers, concession stand staffers, scoreboard operators, and scorebook statisticians. If you, or anybody you know may be interested in helping out with this year's tournament, please contact Mr. Farris at rfarris@ncrjhs.net ,and he will be able to provide you with the master sign-up page.
Go Wildcats!
