Ask California's Education Leaders to
Support Nutrition Access for Students
Comment on California's Draft ESSA State Plan
Education policy presents significant opportunities to create healthier nutrition environments for disadvantaged students. Now, a new federal education law holds the promise of increasing access to resources for wellness in our schools. Join us in asking the California Department of Education (CDE) to create a plan for our education system that provides more equitable access to the academic and health benefits of school meals.

All states are required to develop a state plan for implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Federal law requires the plan to include a description of the actions the state will take to ensure students and youth have access to the federal nutrition programs. CDE is seeking feedback on components of their draft plan. Let's seize this opportunity to help more students access the academic and health benefits of school meals. Submit your comments on CDE's state plan by December 9th.
