NURSE'S NOTES

I hope that everyone had or plans to have their flu shots. Akiba staff had an opportunity to get their shots on campus in September thanks to Dr. Simma Weiss and staff.

We are currently conducting the state mandated hearing, vision, and acanthosis nigricans (a possible early indicator of Type 2 diabetes) screenings for chaverim, kindergarten, grades 1, 3, 5, 7; as well as all new Akiba students. Parents will be notified only if students need to be referred to a specialist. Spinal screenings for grades 5 and 8 will be done in November, with permission forms being sent in advance.

Once again, I am teaming up with Librarian Nancy Cunningham to present hygiene programs to the Lower School students during their October library times. I will discuss the care and hygiene of our noses and the librarian will present reading material, fun and factual. Who "nose" what interesting things the students will learn!

Please remember to submit a copy of all vaccines (other than the flu vaccine) received during the year.  State law mandates the clinic have current shot records for all students.

Contact me anytime for questions concerning shot records or other health related issues.
