Music This Sunday
For Reformation Sunday, the Chancel Choir is joined by members of the Austin Seminary Choir and a full complement of brass and timpani musicians. The instrumental ensemble offers a brilliant Prelude to worship by Gabrieli, then supports the choir and congregation in its first two hymns, including a recent John Rutter arrangement of the hymn, “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.” The choir also offers a recent Hymn-Anthem by Sally Ann Morris, “It Started With an Idle Tale.”

UPC’s location so close to the university, its strong footprint in a variety of ministries in the community, UPLift and the Micah 6 food pantry were all factors that made me feel at home. I knew this was the right church for me...UPC offers numerous opportunities to contribute my time, treasure, or any talent I may have through service on committees, session, and in the community and I truly feel blessed to be able to do so. On that Sunday in March 2015 when I became a member of UPC, I joined several church family members in CROP Walk that afternoon. I now serve as a ruling elder and I also serve on the Stewardship Committee.

Please Register for Tomorrow's Deliberative Dialogue!
Community Advancement Network and Interfaith Action Central Texas (iACT), will host a Deliberative Dialogue on the topic of Safety and Justice at UPC on October 24, sponsored by the Social Witness Committee. The dialogue will focus on how we can increase trust and goodwill between citizens and law enforcement to ensure everyone feels safe in our community.
Sometimes, the best ideas for solutions come from the community and engaging community members and law enforcement together to find ways forward. The output from these conversations will help inform local policy makers and will also be incorporated into the results from the national conversations.

By Their Fruits, Ye Shall Know Them
Once again, UPC, in cooperation with the Northwest Austin Rotary Club, will be selling oranges and grapefruit to benefit Micah 6 of Austin. Fred Morgan will be in the courtyard on Sundays after worship beginning October 29, November 5, 12, 15, 19 and 26 to take your orders. If you don’t want a personal box of fruit, you may order fruit boxes to be donated directly to the Micah 6 Food Pantry. Those who order can pick up your box of fruit on Sunday, December 10. Micah 6 receives $10 per fruit box ordered.

125 th Anniversary Celebration Courtyard Donor Pavers
As part of our 125 th anniversary celebration, the Heritage Ministry Team invites you to add to the church’s history by placing in the UPC courtyard a paver in memory or honor of a person/family who has participated in the life of our church community. A list of each donor courtyard paver currently in place by name and location is available in the church office. The new Courtyard Donor Pavers sale will go live Sunday, November 5.
The mission of the Heritage Ministry is to honor and preserve the past, present and future history of UPC . In 2017, blessed by an anonymous donor, we contracted with HISTORY IT, a digital innovator company, to create a plan to help preserve our archives and digitize selected parts. In early November, materials from each twenty-five year era, 1892-2017, will launch in a digital portal created by HISTORY IT. The portal page will be linked on the UPC website for easy access.
Funds raised from courtyard paver sales will go toward UPC’s continued effort to preserve, archive, digitize and make accessible our stories for future generations.

Celebrations & Concerns
A note from Matt:
I am profoundly thankful for the ways in which so many of you have prayed for and cared for and inquired about Linda Evans , especially over the past few days. Linda is resting at Christopher House, a facility of Hospice Austin, where she is surrounded by family and loved ones. The past week has moved quickly, and, much in contrast to our best hopes, it seems unlikely that Linda will make the move back to their home in Dripping Springs.
In the meantime, the family has asked for a bit of privacy as they spend precious days together, but you can always check for news and updates on their CaringBridge website . In addition, I know that we will continue to hold Linda, David, Whitney, Matt, and their entire family in our prayers, and I know that in our prayers is the very hope of the risen Christ. Thank you all for the ways in which you bring this hope to life here in our church family.
To request prayers for yourself or a loved one, email  [email protected].
Please pray for
John Lauffer, who has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. John is the father of a friend of Elaine Wagner.
To have a deacon pray with you, look for the  Deacon of the Day on the pulpit side front of the sanctuary any Sunday following the postlude. This Sunday's Deacon is Maggi Miller.
To pray for those on our prayer list, download the Celebrations and Concerns folder for October 22, 2017, or pick up a copy in the narthex or outside the church office.
If you'd like to be part of UPC's Prayer Chain, please  email the church office. You will receive emails asking that you pray specifically for people who have requested to be on the prayer list.
