Prof. Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow and Dr. Maha Hilal, Executive Director of the National Coalition to Protect Civil Freedoms, on Saturday, December 3, 2016, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Our event, " From the Back of the Bus to the Front of the Prison" will give attendees important insight into today's prison system. 

Tickets are $15 online, until Nov. 30th. Then tickets will be sold at-the-door at $20 each. Please reserve your seat now! We also will have limited copies of "The New Jim Crow" available for a $25 donation.


GIVE THANKS
 
The Holy Quran equates gratefulness as equivalent to faith. The faithful are those who are thankful to God and to people. God describes His Prophets and Messengers among those whose hearts were in deep gratitude to their Creator. Prophet Noah was a grateful servant of God (Qur'an 17:3). Prophet Abraham used to thank God for His many blessings (Qur'an 16:121). Prophet David and his family were told to be grateful to God (Qur'an 34:13). Allah told His Prophet Muhammad: Worship Allah and be of those who give thanks. (Qur'an 39:66). Click here to read an Islamic perspective about Thanksgiving.

 We urge you to thank God by donating non-perishable food items to the LA Food Bank, OC Food Bank or in your local community by searching "Food Pantry" on your smart phone or computer.

The Muslim American Society will be holding its annual convention this weekend, Nov. 24 - 26 in Ontario, CA. They have great speakers, a full program including  Spanish, bazaar and more. Get your tickets here. Also, the Shura Council will have its table in the bazaar, stop by and see what's new.

The Shura Council congratulates CAIR-LA on it's 20 year gala this past weekend. We also congratulate Masjid Bilal Islamic Center on their 34th Annual Testimonial to Leadership banquet.
