How can we promote healing and peace?

We've entered the season of Advent where we wait for the coming of the Prince of Peace. How might we be peacemakers in our communities? How do we as Women of the ELCA respond to the great divide that grows wider every day in our society? Read Executive Director Linda Post Bushkofsky's counsel. To promote peace within her own soul, Bushkofsky is taking a sabbatical to read, write and quilt. She returns to the office in early March.
'IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE'

What do Women of the ELCA, two Catholic sisters, a  human trafficking survivor and a police lieutenant have in common? They want to put an end to human trafficking. Read the article.
ADVENT: THE HIDDEN SEASON

Advent is the hidden season. It's so easy to miss between Thanksgiving and Christmas, what with the decorations going up all over town even before we've finished our first piece of pumpkin pie. Read the stewardship devotional.

DECEMBER 1 IS WORLD AIDS DAY

Claudia Soliette López Ortega is a 26-year-old Lutheran pastor who believes children's rights and Christmas parties go together. "It breaks my heart to hear stories about children who have never been invited to a birthday party because the neighbors know their HIV status or because they know that they are related to someone with HIV," Claudia said. MULTIPLE MEANINGS: LEARNING FROM OTHER INTERPRETATIONS

At the Tenth Triennial Gathering in Minneapolis, Minn., July 13-16, Mark Allen Powell will lead a workshop that examines how well-known Bible stories are understood in Africa, Russia, Latin America and the United States. Participants will reflect on how the Bible speaks differently to people in different contexts. These studies will be explored in more detail in the January through April 2017 Bible study of Gather magazine. Powell is professor of New Testament, Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio. Learn more about other workshops.
