November 29, 2016
From the Desk of Ellen Knippel, Principal

Dear Parents,
Well, Advent has arrived! This morning we blessed our Advent Wreath and our student ambassador lit the candle to celebrate the first week of Advent. This year we are incorporating part of Fr. Tony's Sunday message into our candle ceremony.

Since our theme for December is BE PREPARED we talked about staying focused on what will happen at the END of Advent: Jesus' birth! We are working hard in our classrooms to be present for one another and not get distracted by everything that is going on around us! Each of our classes will be focusing on child-centered, age appropriate ways to accomplish this. Find out from your child what is happening in their room this Advent!

Students also received their "prayer hats". This tradition is in its third year here at St. Anthony. Each child receives a special "prayer hat" (looks a bit like a Santa hat). Students wear this prayer hat during the day as a reminder that Advent is a "special" time of prayer and preparation.

Advent Blessings!

Mrs. Knippel

Band students should arrive no later than 6pm. The concert is expected to be about an hour long and no longer than one and a half hours. Attire should be appropriate holiday wear (holiday dresses for girls and dress pants with a dressy shirt/sweater/vest for boys are popular choices). Children will be on risers so please wear comfortable shoes!  The band will perform first with a short intermission to remove the chairs etc. When the 3K and 4K students are done performing, they will go sit with their parents. The last song of the evening will be performed by ALL grades (3K-8) so students will come back up at the end to conclude the evening. We look forward to a wonderful Christmas concert! (This concert will not be video recorded.)

Mass Reflection
At the Thanksgiving Mass last Wednesday evening, Fr. Tony demonstated and suggested we use a prayer method at our family tables that he learned from one of Ann Lamott's books. Offering three essential prayers of help, thanks, and wow.

The Sunday Masses of Advent are a series. If you missed Fr. Tony's homily, you can listen to it here
