Administrative
Leadership Program (ALP)
|
What is the Administrative Leadership Program (ALP)?
CCCOE-ALP is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing as a Professional Preparation Program for the Clear Administrative Services Credential (formerly referred to as the Tier II Professional Clear Administrative Services Credential). In partnership with the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), CCCOE-ALP provides high-quality, researched-based professional learning and development for new leaders. Credential candidates expand and deepen their leadership knowledge, skills, and behaviors through individualized, job-embedded induction.
Program highlights include:
- One-on-one coaching by an experienced administrator
- Assisting and supporting participants in their administrative roles
- Advancing the knowledge and skills of participants in relation to the California Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (CPSELs)
- Helping administrators lead, reflect, and grow capacity
- Candidates complete a portfolio based on an Individual Induction Plan, setting goals and outlining their experiences and growth as new leaders. Upon completion of the two-year program, candidates will be recommended for the Clear Administrative Services Credential.

What's in a Number? Exploring Mathematics Conceptually

During this one-day workshop, participants will explore and experience mathematics conceptually, while building a deeper understanding of how math works. We will begin our journey in the number system through the understanding of numbers and operations and make connections to algebraic thinking and progressions through the grade levels. Participants will have an opportunity to collaborate with peers on shifts in teaching and learning through the implementation of the Common Core State Standards.

Introduction to the CA History-Social Science Framework
|
UC Berkeley History-Social Science Project (UCBHSSP) will introduce participants to the new History-Social Science Framework, which was adopted in July 2016. A central aspect of both efforts is to support teaches in developing inquiry-driven courses that integrate the H-SS Standards (content and historical analysis) and Common Core Standards for Literacy in History, while integrating ELD instructional models. UCBHSSP staff will provide a one-day orientation to the History-Social Science Framework, based on their vast experience working with teachers on integrating new approaches to learning. This program is designed for administrators, coaches, teachers, and paraprofessionals.
Participating teachers will be introduced to:
- Major shifts in history-social science instruction as is outlned by the frameworks
- Ways to revise existing courses so they align
- Examples of Best Practices and Examples in Instruction.

Allies & Advocates: A Contra Costa County Equity Initiative
|
The CCCOE is proud to sponsor the year-long initiative on equity and diversity entitled: Allies & Advocates. Championed by Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools Karen Sakata, t
he initiative will feature several events and activities throughout the school year, including four Equity Leadership Retreats
designed to support educational leaders to develop their own capacity to become effective champions of equity.

Computer Science in Contra Costa County
|
This workshop is to introduce Administrators and Counselors to CCCOE's Regional Partnership with Code.org. Learn how your site can access high-quality computer science curriculum and professional learning opportunities for educators. Attendees will learn about Code.org's Middle School and High School computer science courses and explore tools to build computer science courses for the 2018-19 school year. Discover how the CCCOE is supporting computer science in Contra Costa County. Participants will receive materials to share with their community about computer science.

Training: Brief Intervention for Substance-Using Adolescents
|
Short-term counseling intervention that consists of two to four sessions aimed at adolescents who use alcohol, tobacco, and/or other drugs. The program is geared towards TUPE coordinators, administrators, teachers, counselors, school security staff, and community-based-organization representatives.
This training is provided by the Contra Costa County
Tobacco Use Prevention Education (
TUPE
) Program.

Workshop: Menthol & Big Tobacco Targeting of the African American Community
|
Despite fewer teens smoking than ever before, tobacco is still a major health issue and it affects some communities a lot more than others. Explore the tobacco industry targeting of the African American community, health disparities, and prevention strategies. This program is for TUPE coordinators, administrators, teachers, counselors, school security staff, and community-based organization folks. This training is provided by Contra Costa County Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Program.

Training: LGBTQ+ Inclusive Classrooms
|
This training will provide the opportunity for participants to increase their understanding and skills to create safer, more inclusive classroom environments for young people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ).

Planning a Year Around Workshop Teaching - Grades 5-12
|
Recent research indicates that students are reading less as demands for literacy increase across all professions. Now is the time for the artful teaching of reading: to teach young readers the moves necessary to make sense of difficult texts; to motivate students to read independently; to create classrooms that inspire students to be lifelong readers. When it comes to teaching young writers, how do we move students beyond the "flat and stagnant" writing that has become the normal in many schools?

The Saint Mary's College 2017-2018 Distinguished Speaker Series

For the past 23 years, the Distinguished Speaker Series has attracted more than 1,000 educators each year from 5 local counties and more than 30 regional school districts. Internationally renowned speakers, authors, and consultants have been inspiring participants to make a difference in their classroom, school and, community.

Fun Exchanges & Activities for Science Teachers FEAST
|
| Have you been looking for new, exciting, teacher-tested ideas for your science classroom? Or perhaps you've wanted to have a discussion about science resources, safety in the lab, or how other teachers manage a certain science demonstration or other activity? Or maybe you simply want to network with other science teachers and build a lasting friendship with other science educators. If this is what you're looking for, we welcome you to FEAST. FEAST is truly a grass roots effort that began with a small group of about eight secondary science teachers in the fall of 2005.

R4 Empowering Educator Program
|
Empowering Educators is a free professional development program for those who work with students in alternative, court, community, and continuation schools. It is ultimately meant to support the social and emotional health of the adults working with our most challenged youth. Participants will explore:
- Practices of adult self-care when working with trauma-informed youth
- Working within a strengths-based paradigm of teaching and learning
- Developing a culture of emotional intelligence and mental hygiene for students so they are ready for work-based learning and post-secondary education
- Basic understanding of trauma-informed care and executive brain functioning
- Processes of transformative facilitation
- How to build community networks centered around vision to action planning

Conference: Northern CA Safe & Healthy Schools

This two-day conference features keynote speakers and workshops that will engage and inspire anyone who works in the areas of health, mental health, nursing, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, positive youth development, peer education, restorative justice/practices, PBIS/MTSS, social justice, school safety and response, inclusive schools, and bullying prevention.

15th Annual Get Real Academy

The 15th Annual Get Real Academy, presented by Soroptimist International, is a life-skills conference for high school senior girls focusing on life after high school. Seminars throughout the day will include such topics as money management, women's health, domestic and workplace violence issues, insurance, career success, and job search tips. Sign-ups are now being taken.

American Education Week presents all Americans with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are

16th Annual Shelter-in-Place Day
|
Put this date on your calendar today! Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER) invites all schools to practice and improve their site emergency procedures for shelter-in-place by taking part in this 16th annual county-wide exercise. Guidelines for this program will be sent out to all districts and school principals later this summer (reminder post cards have recently been mailed out). Schools can use the time for training, running brief drills, or conducting more detailed emergency exercises.

2017 California STEAM Symposium
|
The 2017 California STEAM Symposium (formerly the STEM Symposium) convenes nearly 3,000 educators from across California to catalyze improved STEAM instruction for all students. The California STEAM Symposium provides educators with opportunities for ongoing rigorous, high-quality, collaborative, and inspiring professional learning and resources. The conference also showcases innovative approaches to teaching and learning happening throughout the state.

Seventh Annual Bay Area Science Festival
|
More than 200 science, technology, and engineering organizations from across the Bay Area will present the fun and excitement of science, through hands-on and interactive exhibits, science-themed performances and demonstrations, and family-oriented entertainment.

| Please join us for a very special event supporting a tremendous county-wide program to raise campus attendance awareness and keep our kids in school. The evening features dinner; raffle prizes; and special keynote speaker, comedian Michael Pritchard, plus more! The Attendance Awarness program is advocated by Contra Costa County's Superintendent of Schools Karen Sakata., Chief Assistant District Attorney Doug MacMaster, Chief of Probation Todd Billeci, and Presiding Juvenile Judge Honorable Rebecca Hardie.

|
Safeway funds grant applications for communities where stores are located. Grants should focus on Safeway's priorities, including education. The National Science Teachers Association offers 19 different awards that recognize teachers for their development and implementation of unique science programs and curricula, outstanding leadership and dedication to the profession. The NSTA awards offer recognition and a multitude of prizes for educators. Prizes include cash awards and grants, school supplies and materials, and trips to our national conferences. | The Contra Costa County Community Awareness and Emergency Response (CAER) provides up to $2,000 grants to improve the preparedness of Contra Costa County schools and agencies in responding effectively to shelter-in-place emergencies. Contra Costa Community Warning System
|
|
The Contra Costa County Community Warning System (CWS) is a comprehensive system designed to alert the public in the county of imminent threats to life or health. The system was developed by the Community Awareness and Emergency Response organization (CAER) and is operated by the Office of the Sheriff.
The CWS mission is to alert the public of imminent threats to life or health, inform the public of basic hazard information and guide them to resources to gather more detailed information.
The CWS uses a variety of tools to reach the public as quickly and reliably as possible such as:
- Telephone notification (cell and landline)
- Email
- Texting
- Social Media (Facebook and Twitter)
- Sirens
- Radio and TV
- NOAA Weather Radios
- Cable Television
