Happy Fall from all of us at Santa Maria!
On Friday, October 13, our Early Childhood Development Program attended the annual Parky's Farm outing! Families enjoyed the park, playground, animals, pumpkin patch, and lunch provided by the organization. Each year, the Parky's Farm outing offers Santa Maria's urban families an opportunity to enjoy a beautiful, educational, and fun green space where children can interact with others and parents can form supportive relationships. Santa Maria Success Story: Meet Lori!
Lori, a mother of five, was referred to Santa Maria's Promoting Our Preschoolers program while looking for support for her family. The program offered educational tools for her children, and through her involvement, Lori began to attend and make connections within Santa Maria's parenting groups.

After learning about concerns with her living situation, we invited Lori to Santa Maria's Tenant Education class which offered information on renters' rights and housing. Due to the class, Lori was able to get her landlord to fix some concerning issues at her house. Lori also became motivated to find new housing for her family. She signed up for subsidized housing, put an application into Habitat for Humanity, and found her family a new home in Price Hill where, with help from Santa Maria, her children were able to attend a close-by private school.

Along with learning about quality affordable housing, she also began working toward stabilizing her finances and opened a credit building account. By using Santa Maria to address multiple concerns with her housing and family, Lori will have the stability she needs for her family to be successful.
