Booth at Social Studies Teachers' Conference
Zinn Education Project Booth a Haven for Teachers
The Zinn Education Project (ZEP) had a lively two days of discussions and community-building during the 2016 National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) annual conference, held in Washington, D.C., Dec. 2-3. The ZEP booth had a steady stream of teachers who talked about the challenges of teaching in these times, responded to survey questions about teaching after the elections and about the Reconstruction era, browsed people's history books, met ZEP staff, and had books signed by noted authors. Each year we debate whether we can afford the expense of the NCSS booth. This year, more than ever, we heard from teachers that they were happy to see us there and know they are not alone in their efforts to teach outside the textbook. Read more.

Lively Night of Fun and Learning
People's History Trivia a Roaring Success
On December 2, the Zinn Education Project hosted a packed house for the first-ever People's History Trivia Night. Scheduled during the National Council for the Social Studies conference in D.C., this fundraising event brought together people's history teachers and friends from D.C. and around the country, including Hawai'i, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, New Mexico, and North Carolina. It was a lively night of laughing and sharing as everyone enjoyed themselves while learning non-trivial people's history. The evening raised more than $1,300 for the Zinn Education Project.
