Organ Project

From our Organbuilder, Mr. Weston Harris:

The next stage of the renovation of the  St. Thomas AIDS Memorial Organ involves refurbishing the innards of the organ console. Built in 1923 for Stanford University by Ernest Skinner (the "Father of American Organ-building), the console is the last of two original Skinner 4-keyboard consoles left in the West. It is receiving premium keyboards, vintage-design stop drawknobs, and a replica music rack of the original 1904 Los Angeles Art Organ Company instrument, Opus 46, which is the core of the St. Thomas organ. A sister to the famed Wanamaker organ in Philadelphia, the St. Thomas organ sat next to the Wanamaker in the downtown Los Angeles factory!

All Souls' Requiem Mass

On Thursday, 2 November at 7:30p, St. Thomas remembers our loved ones who have died in an annual Requiem Mass for All Souls' Day. The St. Thomas Choir sings achingly beautiful, timeless music: the Gregorian Requiem Mass with the Burial Service by William Croft (1678-1727). Please join us at this special Mass to honor the memory of your loved ones.
Calling All Singers

The St. Thomas Choir continues to look for volunteer singers: sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses! Singing in the Parish Choir is a fun and meaningful way to give to the community, all-the-while learning how to effectively and skillfully sing the musical treasury of the Church. To inquire and/or schedule an audition, please click here to contact the Master of the Music, Dr. Jeffrey Parola.

9 December - Advent Lessons & Carols

Lo, he comes with clouds descending! An annual favorite tradition, this service of Advent Lessons & Carols anticipates the birth of Christ with a sense of great mystery and joy. Music includes classic favorites and other gems by Mendelssohn, Lassus, Britten, Rutter, and Howells. Mr. Jae Park guest conducts the radiant LASchola, and Dr. Jeffrey Parola accompanies on the organ. The service takes place on Saturday, 9 December at 5:00p, and a reception follows in the Large Parish Hall. Please be sure to bring friends, as attending this service is a beautiful way to usher in the Christmas season!
Farewell, Katelyn!

Our wonderful soprano section leader, Ms. Katelyn Isaacson, sang her final High Mass with us at St. Thomas on Sunday, 22 October. Beyond Katelyn's incredible talent as a vocalist, she is also a composer (not to mention a bassoonist, too!). One of Katelyn's pursuits as a composer has been in the realm of video game scoring, and her endeavors have led her to a position in the audio department at ArenaNet in Seattle, WA. St. Thomas will miss Katelyn dearly, and we wish her well as she journeys toward a brilliant future!
Evensong with Works by Dr. Adams

Musicologist, composer, and St. Thomas parishioner, Dr. Byron Adams, will have two compositions presented in Evensong at All Saints' Church in Beverly Hills o n Sunday,  5 November at 5:00p.  The All Saints' Choir will sing Dr. Adams' Preces and Responses and his Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in A major. All Saints' address is 504 North Camden Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90210.
