TOYS FOR TOTS DRIVETOYSFORTOTS
The Milton Fencing Team will host the 6th round of the GHSFL tournament season on Saturday, December 17. This year, the team is supporting the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots program as their philanthropy. Representatives from the Marine Corps will participate in the tournament's opening ceremonies at 8:00AM. Please bring in a new, unwrapped toy and help support the Marine Corps and Milton Fencing this holiday season.

DECEMBER TEACHER OF THE MONTHDECTOM
Congratulations to Ms. Blair Fils for being named December Teacher of the Month!

Ms. Fils' teaching philosophy: Teaching was not a career she wanted to do her entire life. She was never that child in the basement teaching to her stuffed animals. In fact, she wanted nothing to do with teaching. As a fourth generation teacher she decided she had to be the one to break the mold. That was until she started tutoring undocumented immigrants at the local high school in Statesboro, Georgia during her senior year of college. It was then that she fell in love with the "spark" that kids get when they learn something. From there, she applied to the Teach For America program, which allowed her to get alternatively certified. During that program she taught in the lowest performing school in Charleston County, and as she walked away broken most days, she never stopped believing that all kids have the ability to learn no matter what society tells them. Because she believes that all kids have the ability to learn, no matter if they are in honors, AP, or on-level, she has the same expectations for all class levels. As a teacher, nothing makes her happier than student success, especially those students that have already counted themselves out before they even get to her door.
DECEMBER EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTHDECEOM
Congratulations to Muttin Islam for being named December Employee of the Month.
Here is what people say about her: Ms. Islam is always willing to help us whenever possible. She is dedicated to her job and kind to all staff!
Milton High School students who are enrolled in Economics during 1st Semester will be taking their EOC on Thursday, December 15. S tudents will receive information regarding their assigned testing time and location from their teachers in the next week. Students who are taking Economics online will receive their information from Administrative Assistant in charge of testing, Mr. Fullilove.

STUDENT DEVICE PREPARATION FOR EOC
In preparation for EOC testing, students will need to make sure that their school issued device is updated. The instructions for updating the device are as follows:
Update Surface and Windows
Step 1: Go to Start Windows logo and select Settings > Update & security > Windows Update.
Step 2: Select Check for updates. Install any available updates.
Step 3: Select Restart now.
Step 4: Repeat steps 1-3 again until the message above the "Check for updates" button states that "Your Device is up to date."
PSAT/NMSQT scores are coming soon! On December 12, students who provided their email address on their PSAT/NMSQT answer sheet will receive an email reminder from College Board explaining where and how to view their scores. Students can set up a free College Board account at any time. If a student doesn't see their score when they log in, have them come to 1360 and see Mrs. Morrison. Students will also received a paper score report in mid-December along with getting their PSAT test booklet back.

PUBLIC REVIEW OF MHS
REQUEST FOR FLEXIBILITYRFFS
As part of the charter process, Milton High School is considering two Requests For Flexibility (RFF). RFF's are exceptions from state/county policies and rules. More information about the RFF's can be found by clicking HERE.

Milton's requests for the 2017-2018 school year are:
  1. Milton is requesting up to FOUR (4) Professional Learning Days for faculty and staff. THREE (3) of the days will be FULL RELEASE days for the students. One (1) of the days will be an EARLY RELEASE day (during the PSAT administration).
  2. Milton is proposing a Flexible Schedule during the Spring GA Milestone End of Course (EOC) test window. The proposal asks that students who are not scheduled to take an EOC assessment will be able to flex their start time on that designated EOC administration.
The Requests for Flexibility (RFF's) are open for public comment for 30 days.

Please go to the Milton School Governance Council webpage and review the documents or click on the links below. Give us your feedback using the online Public Comment Form, or by completing a comment form and returning it to the COMMENT BOX located in the MHS Front Office, or come to the RFF Public Comments Meetings on the following dates:

All forms and comments are due no later than 12/07/2016.

COLLEGE ADMISSION INFORMATIONCOLLEGEINFO
When it comes to college admissions, everyone has the same question: "What are my chances of getting in?" The answer is not always clear, partly due to the way colleges admit students. The most important data is not what you see posted on the school's website, rather it is data that represents the admission decisions of ACTUAL Milton students. We are implementing a new process to begin accumulating meaningful data that will help guide families through college applications.

STEP 1 - Complete the Senior Advisement Form
This will help your Counselor and the College and Career Center assist students with picking schools and planning applications.
If you have not completed this form it can be found here: https://goo.gl/forms/7PKWVGByxowjbykj1

STEP 2 - Complete the Milton High School College Decision Form
This form needs to be completed for each school to which you apply whether you are accepted, denied or deferred. You will be able to go back and edit this form as you receive admission decisions and scholarships, and then again when you decide which school you will attend.
This form can be found here:
https://goo.gl/forms/0aT0wJLpfL1Ge5nJ3

Finally, we are launching a new Facebook page to celebrate the Future of Milton 2017. Once you have decided which school you would like to attend, please share a photo and a little bit about your decision to attend that school.
