CYHS Hosts its Annual Academy Fair!

On December 15th, Central York High School held an academy fair for the class of 2020. During the fair, the freshmen were exposed to the different academies and strands of study available to them here at the High School.

Arts & Humanties Academy
The Arts & Humanities Academy showcased its strands in the Performing Arts, Visual Arts, and Communications.
Thanks to all who helped, with special thanks to Mr. Strickler for opening up CTV, Mr. Martini and Mr. Zortman for your talented performers, and to Mrs. Hogentogler and her student leaders who led groups of Freshmen through the Arts & Humanities experience.
Business and Finance Academy
The Business and Finance Academy offers a strand in Business Management for our students.  Some of the many student run business here at the high school include, but are not limited to, The Panther Perk coffee shop and Central Smoothies!

Upon completion of the courses offered in the Business Academy, students can qualify for MOS certification and CLEP  exams in Financial Accounting, Principles of Management, and Principles of Marketing.

Health Science & Human Services Academy
The Health Science & Human Services Academy showed off its many offerings within the Medical, Exercise Science, Education, Culinary and Public Service Strands.  There were a variety of of displays and demonstrations to highlight each strand of the academy, including a skeleton to represent the Medical Strand, demonstrations of rowing machines and heavy balls for the Exercise Strand, The Panther Preschool program in action representing the Education Strand, and refreshments and tour of the Culinary Lab for the Culinary strand.

S.T.E.M. Academy
At this year's academy fair ninth grade students were given the opportunity to see what the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) classes have to offer. On display were the wonders of physics and chemistry. Many students had a shocking encounter with the Van der Graaf generator! CAD designed three- dimensional models and heirloom quality furniture were on display. Students learned the cold reality of statistics and probability at the mathematics table while a lucky few were able to beat the odds. Besides the 9 th graders, the fair was attended by an enthusiastic group of upperclassmen that acted as guides and encouraged participation in our exciting academy. In addition, both the Science and Math Honors Societies had representatives on site.

From the Counseling Office
Getting Ready for College Program

Mark you calendars NOW! The high school will be hosting the "Getting Ready for College" Program on  February 7, 2017  in the Central York High School Auditorium from 7 to 8:30 pm .

As in the past, we will have college representatives from four or five colleges speaking to parents about the college admissions process along with "How to Decide Which College is Right for You". After the presenters have shared this information with you,  we will open it up for questions from the parents. This is a very informative evening you will not want to miss.

SAT and ACT Testing

The time has come for college bound juniors to begin registering for  college admissions tests. Colleges will accept either  the SAT or ACT test when considering students for admissions - and they have no preference about which test students take. For this reason, students should look at both tests online and decide which test might better reflect their strengths. There are, of  course, colleges that are test-optional, but the vast majority of schools still require one of these tests for admissions.

SAT test information, free preparation tools, and registration is available  sat.collegeboard.org .   ACT test information, free preparation tools, and registration can be  found at actstudent.org .

When registering online (the preferred method for these testing companies),  students should enter Central York's code: 395430. Students are also STRONGLY encouraged to ensure that they have their scores sent directly to their colleges of choice  when registering !

Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch should see their counselor  about receiving a fee waiver before registering.

Students will also find more informati on and links to free preparation for college admissions tests at

new skills. To explore these opportunities, check out the portion of the CYHS Counseling Office website entitled
Families are strongly encouraged to research these programs soon, as many deadlines are upcoming.
