A special thank you to Ron LaRoche, Director, Communications, Marketing and Fund Development, for trusting us with your training needs. Also, a special thank you to Sue Prestedge and Tim Tuck from Mohawk College for designing and delivering a customized workshop on "Managing the Media Encounter".

Future Ready Leadership Training

Employees from the City of Hamilton's Planning and Economic Development Department completed their second level of Future Ready Leadership training in November. They took a "Dragon's Den" approach to their presentations and had a leadership panel consisting of Hamilton's Mayor, Fred Eisenberger, and two councilors, Donna Skelly and Matthew Green. The InvestorCOM Future Ready Leadership cohort finished in November as well. The participants of this program included employees from Braemar House, Mohawk College and MCE. We would like to congratulate one of the participants, Anthony Papadopoulos, on his promotion! One of MCE's Future Ready Leadership graduates, Suzanne McInnes, has been promoted to Acting Director of Watershed Management for the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority. Congratulations Suzanne! We wish you much success in your new role. Here is a message from the previous Director, Peter Graham, on Suzanne's appointment.

"As I will be stepping into the Acting CAO role as of November 14, 2016, Suzanne McInnes will assume the Acting Director of Watershed Management role effective November 14th.  Suzanne has been with the NPCA since 2000 working in various roles throughout her time here. With her extensive knowledge and experience and with the support of the rest of the NPCA team, I am confident she will be able to continue to lead the Watershed Management team during this time in establishing and carrying out the objectives of the Authority and the department.

Thank you all for the ongoing support and commitment in serving our customers during this transition."

Another one of MCE's Future Ready Leadership graduates, Anthony Papadopoulos, has been promoted to Production Coordinator at InvestorCOM. Anthony was previously working for the company as a Digital Print Operator and will begin his new role on December 12th, 2016. Congratulations Anthony! We wish you much success in your new role. Here is what Anthony had to say about the Future Ready Leadership program:

InvestorCOm "The FRL program really helped me change my focus in becoming a better person.  I am able to better understand personalities amongst my workplace so that I can be more effective at communicating and more efficient working with my team.  It has taught me ways to be persistent at working to build positive relationships with my teammates by asking effective questions and getting valuable feedback everywhere I go.  I have no doubts that the FRL program has given me the necessary skills to become an influential leader.  The great thing about it is that I can apply the tools that I have learned to any work position and in my personal life.  Thanks Audie and Angela for making the FRL program so meaningful!"

Managing the Media:

MCE has partnered with Sue Prestedge from Mohawk College's Communications Media Program and Tim Tuck from Mohawk's Public Relations Graduate Certificate Program on a brand new course; Managing the Media. This course will help participants successfully work with the media.

Participants in the course, Managing the Media , will enhance their effectiveness by:
  1. Understanding news
  2. Strategizing key messages
  3. Managing the interview with control and confidence
  4. Preparing for the tough questions
