IvyNotes: The week of October 23th
A weekly look ahead with dates and event details to help keep you informed.

A Note from  Susan Holt

Welcome to picture week! Remember to return your student's Lifetouch order forms which were sent home in backpacks last week.

We hosted our Second Annual School to Work Breakfast last Friday as part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Thanks to our 40 community partners for their dedication to our program and students. (More event details below.)

Please note below the two PTA deadlines this week for sending in Box Tops and for placing your Mixed Bag orders.

Finally, our thanks to NPR's "Invisibilia" for including Ivymount in their production of a podcast about learning social skills. Hanna Rosin, NPR co-host and former MAP parent, and Alix Spiegel, co-host, came to Ivymount last week to capture sound from a few of our experts, as well as, a few of our middle school social skill classes. The show will air in March and we'll be sure to post a link for all to listen.

Have a great week,

Susan Holt

Ivymount celebrated
"School to Work"
at an annual breakfast last Friday,  honoring the community businesses that work with our program.

The program included moving speeches - beginning with Paula Parsons, President of the Ivymount School Board of Directors and a former Ivymount parent, who made those in attendance laugh and cry with her thoughtful, inclusive and funny stories about School to Work.

Ken Karbeling, GM from American Reprographics, Inc (last year's Ivymount Business of the Year) spoke and presented  The Ivymount 2017-18 School to Work Business Partner of the Year Award  to David Vismara, Division Chief at Montgomery Parks.

Maureen Lexner, Director of Operations at KID Museum, spoke and presented The Ivymount 2017-18 School to Work New Business Partner of the Year Award  to Edlavitch Jewish Community Center of Washington, DC.

Each of the award winners was presented with a canvas created by Ivymount artists.

Ivymount's School to Work programs provide community focused life skills that prepare our students for a successful transition from school to employment. Our School to Work programs emphasize building vocational, social, community, and recreational skills.
