This is the season of gratitude and we want to say how thankful we are for all of our business relationships and the great friendships that have developed from our connections to local industry.
We have acquired many great customers over the years and it is our customers and their loyalty to us and the products we represent that make this business so great. We want to acknowledge that we know there are other options and choices out there and that we will continue to work hard to earn and keep your business by providing you with the best products and services.
It is our growth that is the true indicator, we certainly appreciate the great referrals that we continue to get from our customers, partners and others in the industry. The majority of our new customers come to us by referral and again, thank you all so much for having that kind of faith in MCAM.
We would like to express our appreciation for our dedicated team here at MCAM and all their efforts in keeping up with the new releases, improving processes, managing support, post services, sales and quoting while never losing focus on the future direction of MCAM Northwest. You are truly a great team!
A special thanks to CNC Software for another great release of Mastercam. Version 2017 is a spectacular hit with our customers and we look forward to the future development of this fantastic product.
Also we wanted to mention how grateful we are to have been invited to Mastercam Future Directions Conference in Dublin this year. This gave us the opportunity to share ideas that are based on our local customer feedback. It shows how dedicated CNC Software is to it's world-wide customer base, reseller network and industry partners.

Thanks to the Schools!
We held five Mastercam live rollout events which included live machining demonstrations this year and one online rollout. For the first time, we held live events in Idaho! Great company, good food and swag were enjoyed by all. In fact, we had record attendance - thank you to everyone who joined us.

Manufacturing Day 2016
For the second year in a row, MCAM Northwest was proud to participate in two successful Manufacturing Day events.
The first event was at the Center for Advanced Learning (CAL) in Gresham. This event featured a panel discussion moderated by the US Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker. You can read more about that event and how you can benefit from the teaching they are doing in the FutureWorks article below.
Our second event was a presentation at the Clackamas Academy for Industrial Sciences (CAIS) in Oregon City. At both of these events our goal was to show students how manufacturing has changed with digital technology and promote manufacturing as a lucrative career choice.

After a long, long, long labor, healthy baby boy Logan Michael Dias was born on October 16th, 2016 to new parents Garrett and Emily Dias and happy grandparents Tim and Lori Rowley.

On a very special episode of Making Chips: Meghan West and Ben Mund from CNC Software, the developers of Mastercam, sit down with Jim and Jason at IMTS 2016. FutureWorks: An Intentional Internship Program
On October 6, 2016, students and families from the Metro area, swarmed into the Center for Advanced Learning (CAL) in Gresham to participate in Makers Gone Pro. This was the third year that CAL has hosted this engaging National Manufacturing Day event. The event combines local manufacturing companies, organizations and projects associated with the Maker Movement. An exciting addition this year was the attendance of U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker, who moderated a panel of local youth working in the manufacturing sector.
Over 250 participants actively engaged in maker activities, learning more about local manufacturing businesses and organizations while talking with local vendors. Participants had the opportunity to construct planes to run on zip lines; ride in a Flight Simulator; sample food from local manufacturers; shoot off paper rockets; build Super Hero outfits from cardboard and hot glue; and talk with industry experts about the work force job opportunities that are available locally and regionally.
So what does FutureWorks have to do with the Makers Gone Pro event? FutureWorks builds on the interest and excitement generated by the event and opens student's eyes to the possibilities to a future career path. Your investment in an internship through FutureWorks benefits your company, strengthens the local economy, and builds your future workforce and company loyalty.
FutureWorks is funded through an Oregon Department of Education grant that is designed to build internships with East County high school students interested in pursuing a career in manufacturing; digital media design; computer information systems; and health care, with local businesses.
These internships are typically 160-180 hours and occur mostly during the summer months when students are not in school. They are intentional internships. For example, a student studying metals manufacturing who is interested in machining is connected with a local manufacturer who specializes in machining. Working alongside a skilled industry employer helps students connect what they are learning in school to real world experience. Additionally, students will also understand and practice the necessary soft skills needed within a specific work environment, which could include communication, collaboration and problem solving.
Let FutureWorks match your company with a skilled youth that is interested in working in your industry sector. Similar internship programs have produced entry-level workers that are more likely to show up to work on time, and are committed to advancing within the company.
