Important Date Changes
National Honor Society Induction Ceremony
The new Purcell Marian administration has concluded that a later date for the induction ceremony is needed to evaluate the current students up for membership and to create the best induction ceremony possible. We will communicate a new date and time for the induction ceremony to all National Honor Society members and parents once it has been established.

Junior Retreat
The administration of Purcell Marian has made the decision to postpone and re-structure the junior retreat.  The overnight retreat experience at Bergamo limits the ability for all juniors to attend.  Our new religious retreat program will be a mandatory part of the school curriculum.  We will be creating a junior retreat experience that includes all juniors. One of the goals of the retreat will be to develop leadership skills in the junior class as they become the senior leaders of the school.  We will keep you informed of the date.

Remember, there is no school on Oct. 27. Students are off school for a faculty professional development day.

Marianist Library News

The Marianist Library is assisting English teachers

Sebastian Misleh and Tom Strotman to ensure that all of our Freshmen have Cincinnati Public Library Teen Cards. Mr. Misleh and Mr. Strotman have been conducting presentations in the Library with the freshmen on all of the wonderful research data bases offered by the Public Library.  But to access many of these data bases, students do need a public library card number.

Our newest and updated versions of our popular Teacher Features will soon be up for our students to enjoy. We will be sure to "share" them so they also get posted online in one of our photo galleries.

Reminders from the Handbook

ABSENCE PROCEDURES:
Custodial parents and legal guardians are the sole authority for permitting students to miss school on scheduled school days. It should be understood that class time is a vital factor in a student being able to successfully complete courses. Students should only miss school in extreme situations such as a serious illness, serious family situations, etc. If a student must be absent from school, THE CUSTODIAL PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN MUST:

  • Call the attendance office at 487-3142 on the morning of the absence and every morning thereafter until the student returns to school. Please call the office before 9:00 am. Parents should request homework at this time to allow teachers ample time to send work down to the office. Homework may be picked up at the office between 2:45 -4:00 pm. (After 9:00 am it becomes increasingly difficult for our staff to get your child's work in time.)
  • Provide the student with a written-signed letter of excuse stating the cause and dates of the absences. The student should submit this to the Attendance Secretary before returning to classes. The letter will be kept in the student's individual file. A doctor's note or parent's note can be required if the student is absent for three consecutive days due to illness. If a doctor/parent note is not received, the absence remains an unexcused absence.
  • If students are required to leave school early, they must bring a note from the parent or guardian explaining the reason and the time for the release. Dentist or doctor appointments should be made on days when there is no school or after school hours so that the student does not miss valuable class time.
  • Students will not be permitted to leave school during school hours without authorization of persons indicated on the Dismissal Procedure Form/Emergency Card, which must be on file for every student. If there is a change in dismissal procedure, the parent is required to inform the school office in writing.
  • If a student needs to leave school early, they must come to the main office and check out with our secretary. Parents/Guardian permission must be obtained, the student will receive an early dismissal slip, and sign out. Students who fail to follow the checkout policy will receive disciplinary consequences.

Tardy Policy Reminder

We want your student here every day and on time to make The Castle the best place it can be.

Students are given five unexcused tardies per year without disciplinary action. Anything above five tardies in one school year will result in disciplinary action, see below:
  • Six or more tardies, the student will serve detention during 1st bell. The student will be responsible to make up any worked missed.
  • Ten or more tardies, the student will serve three days of detention over Christmas break from 7:45am-11:30am, dates to be determined.
    • If the student fails to report for these detentions they will be asked to leave Purcell Marian.
  • Any student who reaches 15 unexcused tardies for the school year will be asked to leave Purcell Marian.
Tardies to class will be handled individually by each teacher and are listed as a minor infraction. Habitual or excessive tardiness to class may be referred to the Director of Student Life and will be treated as a serious infraction. Students must be in each class before the bell rings. Any student not inside the classroom before the bell rings will be considered tardy.

Parents -- We Need YOU!

Purcell Marian High School is preparing our students for entry into careers or colleges. In an effort to make our students more responsible, please help us make our students the best they can be.

  • If your student has an appointment, please send them with a note to excuse them from class. Your student will receive an Early Dismissal Pass that then they will be able to show their teacher in order to be excused from class.
  • Please realize that students will not be called out of classes to come to the Main Office.
  • No money can be left for students at the Main Office. We cannot be responsible for delivering money to students on a daily basis.
Please help your student prepare nightly for the next school day. Please make sure your student is prepared for the school day, with a packed lunch or money and all of their school work.

We truly appreciate partnering with our families to make our students as successful as they can be.
