"Madame Jackson" at last week's Natl. Jr. French Honor Society ceremony.
|
This is Red Ribbon Week on campus with each day carrying a special theme helping to make our young Knights aware of the dangers of drug abuse and other harmful behaviors. We began today with "Too Bright for Drugs" -
daily schedule.
Please remember that we will be issuing first quarter report cards on Friday, October 27th. That date is also Hurricane Irma Make-Up Day #1.
I need to keep my remarks brief this week as we have purposely loaded in some extra images to help our community capture the spirit of what has been transpiring on campus lately. However, I cannot close without saying THANK YOU to our AMAZING PTSA for their work on last Friday's Halloween Dance. If you ever wonder why we host "Spirit Nights" at local businesses (we have two this week) it is to help generate funds for initiatives like this for the students and other events for the teachers. Your support is appreciated.
I hope this finds your week off to a great start and good luck Wednesday to our Knights volleyball team as they square off at HOME vs. Innovation Middle.
Go KNIGHTS!
In Knights Honor,
Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal, Lake Nona Middle School

We were fortunate to be one of the schools to win two tickets to Volcano Bay at Universal Studios last week. Our school qualified to select winner based on our marketing and participation for national School Lunch Week. Seventh grader Elias Oliphant was the winner and received the news from Assistant Principal Mr. Rosado.

Math rigor where y = mx + b
Mr. Hall's Algebra 1 Honors class uses nontraditional ways to display linear equations in slope intercept form. Learning is always an adventure with Mr. Hall's interactive approach.

National Junior French Honor Society
Twenty Knights were inducted in the National Junior French Honor Society this past Thursday evening in our Media Center. This was the second annual induction of members into the Voltaire Chapter, which still holds the distinction of being the very first middle school French Honor Society within the Orange County Public Schools.
Madame Wood and Madame Benghallem were guest speakers with Madame Watson and Madame Principal Jackson awarding club rooster pins to inductees. Senora Hall read the calling of the inductees. This is a group of dedicated students whose hard work and devotion to the French language and academic accomplishment has compelled us to respond by providing them with the recognition that they have earned.

Each November, in celebration of American Education Week, the OCPS Foundation brings business and civic leaders into the classroom to talk with students about academics, careers and the future. This program is referred to as Teach-In. This year Teach-In will be held on Wednesday, November 15th.
During Teach-In, volunteers read books, teach practical and personal skills, complete demonstrations, or engage students in various projects. What a great way for our students to learn about different professions, while also piquing their interests with real world experiences from community and family members. We strive to engage our local business community in educational excellence by inviting them to take part in this annual program.
Please click on the link below and fill out the brief google form if there is someone you would like to invite to Teach-In on November 15th. As you complete and submit the form, I will extend an official invitation on behalf of our school. Each day you make a difference in the lives of your students. Let's allow our community members and business professionals to enlighten our students on their impact and outreach in the surrounding community and beyond.

"Tardy Sweeps" will run October 23-27 at random times . . .
Due to an increase in tardiness we will be conducting a
Tardy Sweep this week at random times. The students have been told during lunches that
Tardy Sweeps will run this week and that being tardy to class during the sweep will result in an automatic lunch detention.
Please encourage your child to arrive to class on time. Thank you for your support on this matter.
