East school held a Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) Family event after school Tuesday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The event included  team building games, an  East  school rocks painting station, a magic show featuring JYMS student Jacob Carginan, and a Kahoot game.

PBIS is  a proactive approach  to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success. 

Now hiring guest (substitute) teachers for all levels (4K-12)! Pay is between $100-$115/day.

Today is Purple Thursday - Show your support for survivors and start a conversation about domestic violence

 

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and as part of the National Network to End Domestic Violence's Week of Action, people across the country are wearing purple today as a sign of support for survivors of domestic violence. Abuse in relationships is a subject we often don't talk about, but we know that talking openly is key to prevention - as well as to letting those affected by domestic violence know that they're not alone. While it can be a hard conversation to start, we all have an opportunity to be part of the solution. As a young person, you can call out harmful language, be critical of the media, and let friends know that you're there to listen if they're ever a victim of abuse. Parents and guardians can tell kids that violence is never okay and teach peaceful conflict resolution skills. Teachers can break the silence by bringing dialogue about domestic violence, gender norms, and unhealthy media messages into the classroom, as well as letting students know you're a resource if they ever experience violence in the home. Free public screening of Flirting With Danger

Monday, October 30th, 5:30-7pm, UW-Baraboo/Sauk County Cafeteria

 

Where is the line between consent and coercion? How do contradictory societal messages about female sexuality shape young women's experiences of safety and violence? Join Hope House and the UW-Baraboo Sauk County PRIDE Club in discussing these questions and more through a screening of Flirting With Danger, a documentary about the complexities of power and choice in young adults' heterosexual relationships. Help us recognize the end of Domestic Violence Awareness Month by engaging in honest conversation about the cultural factors that contribute to sexual and relationship violence - as well as how we can all make a difference by promoting values of equality and consent.

 

Please note: the documentary includes sexual imagery taken from mainstream media, explicit language, and discussion of sexual and relationship violence. A Hope House staff person will be available to provide support during or after the film.
