Do Your Employees Know How to Handle a Premises Liability Risk Correctly?

Any business that has "visitors" to their location faces the risk of premises liability. Premises liability risk refers to situations that occur on property (or "premises") owned or maintained by you, a business owner, and can leave you open to legal responsibility. Visitors can include any non-employee including customers, solicitors, sales people, delivery persons and even contractors performing a service such as snow removal, window washing or computer maintenance.

Be sure you have guidelines in place for your employees to follow, when responding to reports of injuries to visitors or damage to visitors' property. If employees are trained to quickly and effectively respond to an incident, the situation will remain calm and cause less of a disruption to the rest of the location.

Businesses can protect themselves and their employees by being proactive about workplace safety and implementing what is known as an injury and illness prevention plan. By investing proactively in safety programs and training, businesses can reduce workplace accidents, potentially increase employee retention and improve productivity.
