It's startling to learn than at least one in four Contra Costa residents struggle with hunger, and many have to choose between food and housing. On top of this, food stamp recipients are seeing a 5% decline in their allotment due to Federal budget reductions. More cuts are on the table.
At this time of the year, marked by feasts and treats, it's easy to forget that there are people in our community without adequate food. I hope you'll join me in helping them through a donation to the
Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. Every year, Contra Costa County employees participate in an annual
Holiday Food Fight, a good-hearted competition among county departments, and among the five County Supervisors to raise money for the food bank. We also compete against Solano County employees to see which county can raise more money for the food bank. Friends, family, and community members join in. This drive has raised more than a million dollars since it started nine years ago.
You can join the
effort by making a contribution to the food bank.
It's easy. Simply go to the
food bank website, (
www.foodbankccs.org), and click on the orange "
donate" tab in the middle of the page. Under Food Drive or Special Event, type in Holiday Food Fight. Then, at the bottom of this page where it asks if you have a special purpose for your donation, you can scroll to the Contra Costa Employee Food Fight.
Helping the hungry truly takes a community effort. Many thanks for doing whatever you can.
