Fall Soccer Skills Camp and Winter Sharpness/Parent Skills Registrations Now OpenFallSoccerCamp
Fall Camp led by current Seattle Reign star Beverly Yanez and Former MLS Columbus Crew Player OT Yanez

Fall Skills Camp - Mercer Island FC is excited to once again offer our Fall Soccer Camp for players who want to continue working on their skills after the Recreational season is over. The camp will be led by current Seattle Reign player Beverly Yanez and former MLS player OT Yanez (Columbus Crew). They will be assisted by players from MIHS Boys Soccer program.

The focus will be on fun, engaging activities that work on a players ability to maintain possession, elude pressure, make and receive accurate passes, understand spacing and finish strongly. Beverly and OT have years of experience working with youth players through their association with Beast Mode Soccer and participation in Seattle Reign summer camps.

The camp will run on Wednesday afternoons on the Islander Middle School turf from 3:00-4:30pm starting November 8th and running through December 13th (no session Thanksgiving week). Fall Soccer Skills costs $60 per player.

Winter Sharpness/Parent Skills - Mercer Island FC has offered this popular Friday night program for years. Starting January 5th and running through the end of February, Winter Sharpness allows players to scrimmage with other players of their age and skill level under the watchful eye of Mercer Island High School boys Coach Colin Rigby, assisted by experienced Mercer Island FC and Eastside FC coaches.

Not only do the kids get high quality academy style training from great coaches, but the parents get a training session too! Aaron Byers, MIFC's Vice President of Player Development has the parents come and do the same activities the kids are doing and progressing through. You get a full understanding of why we do these activities with the players and you have a lot of fun. Last year we had 30+ parents work with Aaron each Friday night.  Of course, you can always use the 90 minutes to go have a dinner with your spouse. But then you'll miss out on the fun of learning the same skills as your son or daughter.

Winter Sharpness/Parent Skills is held under the lights at the Mercer Island High School Stadium. Cost is $125.

If you sign up now for both the Fall Soccer Camp and the Winter Sharpness/Parent Skills, the combined cost is $165. This represents a 10+% discount.

Fall Recreational Season wraps up with U8-U9 EYSA Open and U10 EYSA Cup on November 4th weekendRecJamboree
3rd Annual All-EYSA post season event brings together U8-10 teams from across the Association

For the past 3 years, Mercer Island FC and our sister clubs from Bellevue, Lake Hills, Newport Hills and Issaquah have held a weekend event
at the end of the  season for our U8-U10 Recreational teams. It is a chance to arrange competition for the teams with opponents who have had similar results during the fall season. For the U-10 teams, it offers a chance to experience a tournament like atmosphere.

The U8-U9 teams will play two games in the EYSA Open on November 4th. Pairings will be based on results from the first 6 weeks of the season to try and match up similarly skilled teams. The U10 teams will play one game on the 4th and two games on the 5th in the EYSA Cup. The goal is to crown a "champion" for the U10 boys and girls teams.

If you haven't already heard from your coach with specific information on game times and locations, you soon will. Using information from the first 6 weeks of the season, EYSA has built a schedule matching teams of similar ability against each other so teams end the fall season with a "like vs. like" competition. This is especially valuable for U8 teams where creating balanced divisions is particularly hard since all the teams are new.

Good luck to all the MIFC teams on November 4th and 5th.
MIFC Teams Support MIHS Girls Soccer Program  BallGirls
High School Team's Season Success a Direct Result of MIFC Ball Girls at the Games

Okay, attributing the outstanding season success the MIHS girls have achieved so far - 11-1-1 season record and 1st place in the KingCo Conference - entirely to the presence of MIFC ball girls at every game is probably stretching it. But it certainly hasn't hurt.  MIHS Coach James Valles - "The ball girls program is working great. We have won two games very late in matches while the other team was trying to waste time and play for the tie. The quick actions of the ball girls make that aspect of slowing the game down difficult to accomplish. Two wins with under 2 minutes left didn't happen by accident. The ball was on the field when it needed to be. Let all the coaches, parents, and players know how important this program is to MIHS Girls Soccer and how much it is appreciated."

Coordinating with the MIHS Girls Soccer Booster Club, MIFC teams signed up to be ball girls at each game this season. The MIFC girls stand around the field and behind the goals to retrieve errant shots and balls that go out of bounds. Not only does this keep the high school game moving along, but our MIFC girls get to see the style and pace of MIHS Girls soccer up close. Its a win-win for both programs.

"What a great experience for our U-14 girls", said MIFC Coach Heidi Martin. "Watching their level of play was inspiring for our team. The MIHS Varsity Girls demonstrated the importance of spreading out, good passes, moving to open space, and being aggressive. All while supporting each other and being extremely kind to our ball girls.  It was a very competitive game and fun to watch them win 2-0 against Bellevue."

Good luck MIHS Girls as they head towards the post season KingCo playoffs and efforts to earn a state tournament berth. Folllow the MIHS Girls season progress on their Facebook page here

Come out and cheer on the MIHS Girls as they celebrate Senior Night and MIFC Night on Tuesday, October 24th at 7:30pm

Volunteer Spotlight - MIFC Vice President of Referees Ken RobertsonVolunteer
VP of Referees makes sure youth and adult referees are trained and prepared to fill the crucial role in the sport

With 3 kids playing in the Mercer Island FC program and a wife who coached and played on 2 adult soccer teams, VP of Referees Ken Robertson thought maybe he should look for a way to get involved with the sport.

10 years later, Ken not only works with MIFC, but coordinates referee activities across the Eastside Association and is one of the most experienced referee coordinators in the state. Your child's game would likely not have a trained, certified referee if it weren't for Ken.
