                     FALL 2016
President's Letter

The North American Society for Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynecology is a unique organization that addresses women's gynecologic and psychiatric concerns across the reproductive life cycle.  Originally created as a specialty organization within the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Society has evolved to include an increasing number of psychiatric healthcare professionals.

Our focus on promoting collaboration between medical specialties was on full display at our biennial conference in New York City last April.  189 clinicians from around the world came together for a 3 day meeting at the historic New York Academy of Medicine on Manhattan's Upper Eastside from April 8-10.  As is typical of our meetings, trainees and clinicians early in their careers had the opportunity to mingle with leaders in the field.  Also typical, despite the distractions of a beautiful spring weekend in the Big Apple, the lecture hall was packed even on the third day of the conference.  Though we bill ourselves as a national organization, we had participants from as far away as Israel, Yemen, New Zealand, and South America. For a detailed description of the program.  Click here for the meeting booklet

Our next conference will be held in 2018 in Philadelphia, under the direction of our President-elect, C. Neill Epperson, MD, Director of the Penn Center for Women's Behavioral Wellness.  Stay tuned for details!

In May, 2016, we presented a Symposium on Hormones and Moods at the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting in Washington, DC. Jonathan Schaffir, Teri Pearlstein, Beth Prairie, and I presented. NASPOG has been invited to present again at the upcoming annual meeting in San Diego in May, 2017.  Dr. Schaffir is also representing us on the board of ISPOG, the International Society for Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynecology.  Click here for a link to their latest newsletter.  See below regarding an ISPOG award with a December 1 deadline for submission.

In the time between conferences, membership in NASPOG offers the opportunity to network with colleagues in Psychiatry and OB/GYN. If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected] and we will put you in touch with clinicians who can address your questions.

Best regards,
