A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 11 28 16

Parents and Guardians,

I hope you and your student had a great Thanksgiving Break this past week. Christy and I enjoyed getting our two oldest boys home from college for several days and having the entire family together for the first time in a while. It was a great opportunity to stop and remember all the things we have to be thankful for including the Lovejoy Community.

Incredibly, we only have three weeks left in the fall semester. Please take a few minutes to review the upcoming events and dates listed below to ensure you are up-to-date on the many events in December. Have a great week.

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School

Senior Project Judges Needed
We are still in need of a few judges for the December 7th Presentation Night!
Senior Project is an exciting part of every LHS senior's experience as they explore topics of their choice and share what they learn with members of the community. There are different components of the project including creating a proposal, writing an annotated bibliography, and completing an activity. As the culminating event of their Senior Project, students give an 8-10 minute presentation about their experience to a panel of adult volunteer judges. These judges score students on their presentation skills and give them feedback designed to help them in their future pursuits.

If you have never judged before, judges training will begin at 5:30 pm in the Lovejoy High School Library. Dinner will be provided. Presentations will begin at 6:30 p.m. and should conclude by 9:00 p.m. at the latest.

If you would like to sign-up to judge, please complete the google form here.

Please contact Sara Seoighe ( [email protected] ) with questions.

LHS Choir
The Lovejoy Choir had an amazing showing at Pre-Area auditions! Of the 25 students who auditioned from Lovejoy, 13 of them are advancing to the Area audition - the final audition in the All-State Choir process! (To put that number into perspective, we had 4 audition at Area last year.) Lovejoy dominated Region 25; the next school closest to us has 7 advancing to the Area audition.

James Ayers, Zach McCormick, Jackson Rexford, Parker Rexford, Garreth Ayres, Lilly Musselman, Katharine Heath, Abby Eaton, Haley Bennett, and Morgan Elvin all wrestled in yesterday's varsity event. With 23 teams present, the tournament was a great test for our team.

Zach McCormick wrestled well on his way to a 3-2 record and a 4th place finish. On the women's side, Morgan Elvin capped off a great day with a 3rd place finish! Morgan finished the day with 5 wins, all by pin!

Students Leaving Campus
In the event that students need to leave campus during the school day and they drive themselves to school, we will need you to send an email to [email protected] . Please include the student's name, the time they need to leave, the reason, and a phone number to be used to contact you. Once we have received the email, we will call you for verification, and the email will provide us with the needed documentation for our records.

Parking for Daytime Events
This is a reminder that we have changed our parking policy in regards to campus events that are scheduled during school hours. Due to the increase in the number of student-assigned parking spots in the back parking lot, we ask that parents park in the front, and we will have a sign-in table just inside the cafeteria.
