Dear  ,

On this Thanksgiving weekend, Green Needham thanks you and the many others in Needham involved in building a more sustainable community.

The people and institutions with the greatest impact are those closest to us.  So while we acknowledge an additional challenge in Washington, we can take heart and confidence from the progress we've made as residents and businesses locally, as a municipality and as a state.

With others - including California (the world's 6th largest economy), many red states (where the largest amount of clean energy generation is installed), and our northeast neighbors - Massachusetts is leading by example in creating jobs and a new energy economy.  Major multinational corporations have embraced the opportunities of sustainability and 190 nations have committed to reducing the impact of global climate change.

Please read below for an opportunity to help determine Green Needham's priorities in continuing our progress towards a healthy, prosperous and sustainable community.
Green Needham Hosting Focus Group Meeting

For the past 10 years Green Needham has worked collaboratively for a more sustainable and economically healthy community committed to reducing carbon emissions and using resources wisely. Now that we are entering our second decade, it is time to take stock.

Green Needham is hosting a focus group meeting which will bring together a small group of people willing to help identify ways to get the Needham community more engaged in supporting our mission. During our focus group meeting we will briefly describe Green Needham's current projects and ask participants which ones sound most appealing to them and which ones they believe would be most interesting to others in Needham. We will ask participants to share their thoughts and ideas as to how they or others in Needham might get involved in small or more substantial ways.

Two focus groups have been organized for next week. There are a limited number of spaces still open on each evening:
  • Tuesday, November 29  7:00-8:30 p.m. First Parish in Needham, 23 Dedham Ave.
  • Wednesday, November 30  7:00-8:30 p.m. First Parish in Needham, 23 Dedham Ave.
If you would like to participate, please email us at info@greenneedham.org and let us know which night you would be available.
Mass Energy offers electric vehicle discount program

Mass Energy, a non-profit with a mission to make energy more affordable and environmentally sustainable, has launched a new limited-time program which enables people to buy an electric vehicle at a discount. Drive Green with Mass Energy is the first EV buying group program in the Northeast. Mass Energy has negotiated with several car dealers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island to offer the Nissan LEAF, Ford Fusion Energi, Ford C-Max Energi, or Chevy Volt at discounted prices. They have also set up a waiting list for the all-new Chevrolet Bolt. Read more ...
Here's a Volunteer Opportunity with Multiple Benefits: Gleaning

Webster defines "gleaning" as "to gather grain or other material that is left after the main crop has been gathered."

Did you know that there's an activity which provides fresh produce for those who cannot easily afford it, reduces food waste, and gets you some exercise?  It's volunteering with the Boston Area Gleaners,  Waltham-based  non-profit that connects volunteers with local farmers who have produce left on their fields after the harvest.  The volunteers car-pool or drive out to the farm (within an hour's drive of Waltham), on the designated date, and gather the remaining crop, which would otherwise be left on the fields to be plowed under. Boston Area Gleaners then distributes this produce to local food pantries and low-income markets.  Read more ...

Sincerely,
