November 2016
It's true, it's been a few months since we've been in touch. Rest assured we've been hard at work, including wrapping up PedsCount! 2016, co-facilitating Community Pedestrian & Bicyclist Safety Training workshops across the state withUC Berkeley SafeTREC, inspiring action on pedestrian safety in San Joaquin County with our public health partners, and organizing the Active Transportation Leadership Program in Garden Grove and Anaheim Before the end of the year, we'll be working with partners on walk audits for the Kern Region Active Transportation Plan and onboarding new staff in the Central Valley and Southern California.

We'll have another update introducing our amazing new staff members, and over the coming months, we'll be working on much needed updates to our website and newsletter systems.

We know 2017 will be filled with new opportunities and challenges, and we've made an early resolution to keep you updated and by our side through it all!

Spearheading the the Design 4 Active Sacramento (D4AS), our local partner WALKSacramento  has been working  to build momentum around implementation of active design principles and recently won an excellence award from the Center for Active Design for successfully incorporating active design-oriented language into the county's zoning code and design guidelines. Taking civic engagement to the next level, WALKSacramento worked with youth from two high schools to explore how health outcomes are tied to active transportation access and involved conducting walk audits and evaluating how the negative perceptions of safety and lack of infrastructure in their neighborhoods impact public health. Learn more about WALKSacramento's inspiring work in this American Planning Association (APA) story.
