Year End Appreciation Party
Our year end Appreciation Party was held on May 18th. Adult and student volunteers as well as participants joined us for pizza at Live from NY Pizza in Eureka.

CA Statewide Youth Court Summit
On June 22-24, 4 teen representatives went to the CA Statewide Youth Court Summit at University of Redlands.  They had a great time. And one of our very own teens was on the Youth Advisory Board this whole year, and was instrumental in the planning of the conference. She took leadership at the summit by introducing speakers, moderating Q & A, and leading networking activities. Great Job, Leah!

Video Contest Winners!!
At the CA Youth Court Summit, Humboldt County entered into the video contest and won 2nd place. We received $200!! And spent it on Mini Golf, dinner, and dessert.

Know Your Rights Workshop

On June 30th, Program Coordinator Rosalba Gonzalez presented a training at the McKinleyville Teen Center on Knowing Your Rights. This was something the youth expressed interest in, and we were happy to follow up on their interests.

Volunteers of the Month
June: Ray Feral
Ray has only been with Teen Court for a short while, but he has routinely stepped up to higher positions of responsibility: he got trained as an attorney; then served as an attorney; and has great perspective when questioning participants.

July: Slate Taylor

Slate has served as both juror and clerk, and has expressed interest in our Teen Court Leaders program. We look forward to his thoughtful presence in whatever he does.
Slate Taylor awarded in July
August: Alex Pena
Alex will serve as a Teen Court Leader for the second year in a row. She continually steps up into roles of leadership with Teen Court and we greatly appreciate her dedication and efforts.

Shout Outs!

Humboldt Sponsors
For many years now, Humboldt Sponsors has helped to make our trip to the CA Statewide Youth Court Summit a reality by dedicating financial support to this annual event. This year, they gave $1,000 and we thank them for their support!

Humboldt County Bar Association
A huge thank you to the Humboldt County Bar Association for donating $1,500 to the Teen Court program!
Year after year, the Humboldt County Bar Association consistently shows tremendous support of the Teen Court program through generous donations.
Additionally, many members of the Bar Association show their support of Teen Court by volunteering their time to serve as mentor attorneys. The time and attention that these adult mentors offer is such a gift; it often inspires the teen volunteers to pursue a career in the legal field.

Welcome new Program Coordinator, Nadia Al-Yagout!
Rosalba Gonzalez is no longer the Program Coordinator at Teen Court. She is continuing her education with the MSW program at HSU this Fall.
Nadia obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology & Justice Studies/Sociology from Humboldt State University in 2017. Throughout her academic career, she has gained an immense passion for transformative and restorative justice. She has conducted multiple research projects and spoken at national academic conferences about community accountability and various transformative justice approaches, and even traveled to the Netherlands during the summer of 2016 to study the Dutch's emphasis of restorative justice in their criminal justice system. She hopes to implement her knowledge and skills at the Boys & Girls Club Teen Court. Teen Court's mission resonates with Nadia, as she believes in youth empowerment and their ability to effectively create change in other youth's lives while positively contributing to the overall success of their community.
