Alum Speaks on Mental Health--October 15
Hannah Durbin '14, a senior at Elon University, is speaking locally on mental health and overcoming challenges. Hannah has fully recovered from anorexia, depression, and anxiety, and she publicly shares her recovery via Instagram and public speaking engagements. Hear Hannah speak on October 15 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at the Center for Hope and Healing, Camp Hill.

The first marking period ends on Thursday, October 26. We will hold voluntary, 15-minute parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, November 2, after school hours. If you would like to speak with any of your student's teachers about his/her progress in their class, please contact

(not individual teachers) beginning on Wednesday, October 18, to set up those appointments. While our faculty would like to meet and speak with the parents of every student they teach, there is not enough time in the evening; if your child is doing well in a class, it may not be necessary to see that specific teacher.
If you do not need to see any teachers but would like to pick up your child's report card, they will be available in the busport from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. Any report cards not picked up on Thursday, November 2 will be distributed to students in homeroom on Monday, November 6. Thursday, November 2, is a regular school day for students; Trinity is closed Friday, November 3.

Midterm Examinations--January 9 to 11
Midterm examinations are scheduled for the mornings of January 9, 10, and 11. Please do not schedule appointments for your child on those mornings. Most students will complete their exams by 11:00 a.m. each day. Because the weather is unpredictable in January, please note that, should it snow on any examination day, Friday, January 12, will be the first snow make-up day for examinations. Monday, January 15, will be the second snow make-up day for examinations.

Trinity High School has developed a hospital internship program for seniors in conjunction with Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill. Students will spend four days (one per quarter) shadowing different departments within the hospital, and they will receive a quarter credit at the conclusion of the program. This year’s pilot program will include the following seniors:

Congratulations to Mr. David Geisel, who joined 536 United States Government and Politics teachers in Salt Lake City, UT, in June to score 319,612 AP exams. Mr. Geisel has been recognized by the College Board for the significant contributions he made during his week as an AP Reader due to his experience and expertise. The contribution made by Mr. Geisel and other AP Readers is essential to the success of the AP Program. Thank you for your work as a Reader and as a teacher, Mr. Geisel!

Sara Sajer '13, Fulbright Scholar
"Service with an International Scope"
Sara Sajer '13 has received a
Fulbright U.S. Student Program
award to Kosovo. The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. It is designed to build lasting connections between the people of the United States and the people of more than 160 other countries and to address critical global challenges mutually. Sara will teach English at the University of Mitrovica “Isa Bolentini” and independently research Balkan radio culture as part of her English Teaching Assistantship grant. Sara credits her eligibility for such an opportunity to her family’s unwavering support and strong work ethic instilled by Trinity High School and Good Shepherd School. Congratulations on this tremendous achievement, Sara!

- October through April--Good Shepherd Church--CORE Members for EDGE: We need high school students who are on fire for their faith to join us on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. to volunteer on our CORE Team for the EDGE Ministry at Good Shepherd Church. This program is run weekly, with the exception of a few Mondays that fall on holidays. Volunteers must commit to being there each week, to reading the weekly materials in advance, to helping with the activities, prayers, and small groups. They must be mature and show by example what it is like to live out their faith. Please contact Dr. Spahr or at 717-737-8216 to sign up.

Gospel for Sunday, October 15, 2017--28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jesus again in reply spoke to the chief priests and elders of the people in parables, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come. A second time he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those invited: "Behold, I have prepared my banquet, my calves and fattened cattle are killed, and everything is ready; come to the feast."' Some ignored the invitation and went away, one to his farm, another to his business. The rest laid hold of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them. The king was enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. Then he said to his servants, 'The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come. Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find.' The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike, and the hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to meet the guests, he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment. The king said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?' But he was reduced to silence. Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.' Many are invited, but few are chosen."

Reflection
In the 2nd Reading this Sunday, Paul states, "I can do all things in him who strengthens me" (Phil 4:13). Often we face challenges in life. When we encounter these challenges, we often turn to friends and family for assistance, but do we turn to Jesus? Our relationship with Jesus can strengthen us to face any adversity. Jesus is always there ready to help. Do we allow him in? Do we lean on him?

Saint of the Week--St. Luke (October 18)
Saint Luke is known to us primarily as the author of the Gospel that bears his name and Acts of the Apostles. Actually two volumes of one work, Luke-Acts instructs and inspires us with his beautiful treatment of the words and deeds of Jesus and of the early Church. We are blessed by Luke's writings.
