Dear RWF Friends,
For many in our community the unthinkable happened last week with the election of Donald Trump.
TRUMP - A MAN OF FEAR
Both domestically and internationally, the United States LGBTQ community has achieved remarkable victories over the last eight years - the repeal of DADT, marriage equality, passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, the launch of the Global Equity Fund, and Presidential and UN declarations of support for LGBTQ rights to name just a few. In 2011, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared "Gay Rights are Human Rights," a decision that has had considerable impact worldwide.
We now face the loss of the very achievements for which we have spent nearly a decade fighting. Donald Trump ran a campaign brimming with the rhetoric of division, encouraging prejudice and hate toward some of the most vulnerable groups in society. In the days since his election there has been a tremendous upsurge in violence towards minorities and immigrants. His words and actions have been interpreted as a green light by many to commit racist, misogynist, homophobic and transphobic acts.
Our greatest fear is that the forces of hatred will be even more emboldened by Trump and his administration enacting policies which will jeopardize the well-being of our already vulnerable global LGBTQ family. More than ever we need to remain dedicated to our core values of fraternity, love and compassion.
The Rainbow World Fund is committed to continue to be a life line for our LGBTQ brothers and sisters by providing for the humanitarian needs of Ugandans fleeing persecution, by securing safe passage out of Iraq and Syria for those whose lives are in danger, and by funding the infrastructure of an "underground railroad" in Central America that allows imperiled transgender women start new lives. Through these and many other programs, we work to improve the quality of life for at-risk LGBTQ populations around the globe.

FROM UGANDA WITH LOVE
Meet Richard Lusimbo, a chief witness in the case against anti-gay American pastor Scott Lively. Lusimbo will speak about the terror the minister and his colleagues have unleashed against LGBTQ Ugandans and discuss the case being heard in Federal Court charging Lively with committing crimes against humanity.

MEET LUSIMBO - A MAN OF COURAGE
Richard Lusimbo, gained international attention when he was outed in 2013 and 2014 by a Ugandan tabloid for being gay. His picture appeared on the cover of the tabloid "Red Pepper," with the headline "Top Gays Speak Out: How I Became Homosexual." After receiving repeated death threats he had to leave his home and later leave the country to stay briefly in the United States. He has since returned to Uganda
and like other LGBTQ leaders there he lives under constant threat of violence in his home country.

RWF provides financial aid to support members of the Ugandan LGBTQ community who faced abuse and harassment following that country's passing into law and subsequent nullification of the Anti-Homosexuality Act in 2014. RWF aid is used to provide transitional safe housing, transportation to safety, medical assistance, as well as modest start-up funds for basic necessities for people to being new lives.
