Principal Message:  August 24, 2017

Dear Parents,
We have had a fantastic first week of school.  We enjoyed the Solar Eclipse on Monday, and our teachers have worked very hard this week building strong relationships with all of our students. We know in order for our students to learn best, that they need to have strong connections to their teacher, their peers, and our school.  If we have missed the target, please let us know so we can provide best learning environment for your child.  
We appreciate your patience with our drop off and pick up lines.  Please read below for a few helpful hints around drop off and pick up procedures.  We are looking forward to our assembly tomorrow with Nana Puddin' to "Kick-Off" our year with great character.  If you would like to join us, you are more than welcome to attend.  A big thank you to our PTA for providing this great opportunity to our students.  Lovejoy Elementary is off to a great start of continuing our legacy of strong character and education.  As always, please feel free to contact me or call me with any questions or concerns. LES News 

NEW! PTA Membership
I would like to invite you to join our PTA as we work together with the faculty at LES to enrich every child's educational experience over the next 10 months. Joining PTA has some perks for you personally, including a printed PTA student directory and an electronic PTA newsletter, both only distributed to PTA members.  Beyond that, your dues help us meet our budget goals so we can continue to provide exemplary programs for the students at LES that we have all grown to love and appreciate.  Being a PTA member also provides you with the opportunity to attend our general meetings and participate as a voting member in making decisions throughout the school year.

Membership dues are $7.50 per person.  Anyone related to an LES student is eligible to be a member, including the students themselves!  We have entire families who have joined the team, including grandparents!  The support we have here at LES from our families is truly phenomenal and makes representing you all on the board a very special experience.

O R DER TODAY!  Grade Level T-shirts - Due on Monday!
A  bi g th an k you to everyone who was ordered our school wide shirt. If you have not ordered, one please do so by Monday at 8:00 a.m. We will place our first order on Monday.  Our first school wide spirit day where we will all wear our shirts will be on Friday, September 22 nd .  We still have about 300 students who have not ordered shirts.    For more information about the shirt and to find the order                                                    form, please click here .


NEW! School Holiday
On Monday, September 4th, we will not have school in observance of Labor Day. I hope that your family enjoys their 3 day weekend.


 

NEW! No electronics at school please!
As a reminder, we are encouraging our students to keep all of their electronics at home. They will not be allowed to play them in the morning before school or in the afternoon when they are waiting for their ride home.  If your child wants to bring their electronics for the bus ride home or for their after school day care, they are more than welcome to bring them to school.  We are just asking that they stay in their back packs all day.  


 
NEW! Ice Cream Social
Our PTA will, once again, host the Lovejoy Elementary Ice Cream Social.  I highly encourage you to attend as it's a great time to meet or to reconnect with other Lovejoy families.  This is a free event for our families to meet new families.  I hope you'll be able to join us on September 21 st at 6:00 in the Lovejoy Cafeteria.  Also, our staff member will be attending and serving ice cream and toppings to all who attend! Following the meeting, we will have a PTA General Meeting.


 
Thank you for your patience this week as we transition to our new procedures. We appreciate you being flexible and accommodating. Here are few tips to help us get better.
  • For dropping off or picking your child up, please have the back passenger seat open.
  • In the mornings, please use the church parking lot entrance for ALL drop off locations.  If you are wanting to park and walk your child in,                                       you may get out of drop off line and pass the cars waiting.
  • We encourage you to drop your child off in our car drop off line in the morning.  Our teachers open the car doors and will escort your child in if they are unsure of where to go. This is a great way to let them experience a little independence in a safe environment.
  • Did you know that Stacy Road does not have very much traffic on it?

If you did not your car tag at Meet the Teacher, please pick it up on Monday morning when you drop off your child.  

 

REMINDER!  Character Education Assembly
Get ready for Dennis Lee and his puppet friends! They are back again this year with a brand new show called "Dear Me." As part of our ongoing commitment to instill strong character values in our children, Dennis Lee and his puppets will bring our Six Pillars of Character to life and help us kick off a great school year! Through his engaging presentation with his zany cast of ventriloquist characters, he gently teaches and reminds us to have strength of character and disciplined behavior. The assembly will begin at 1:45 in the gym. We are excited for a new year of growing not only the minds, but also the hearts of our students!

REMINDER! Double L Choir - 3rd & 4th Graders

NEW!LOVEJOY CHILDREN'S CHOIR - 4TH, 5TH, 6TH GRADERS
The Lovejoy ISD Children's Choir, directed by the Lovejoy ISD Elementary Music  Speciali sts, is designed to serve the needs of our district's 4 th , 5 th and 6 th grade students who are committed to a musically exceptional experience. Auditions will be held for any and all LISD 4 th , 5 th and 6 th grade students interested in participating. Returning members do not need to audition.

Singers selected to sing with the Lovejoy Children's Choir will rehearse weekly to prepare for a short performance at the LISD Fine Arts Festival on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 12PM and the final concert on Tuesday , F ebruary 27, 2018 at 6:30PM.

It is, once again, time to complete the FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and General Waiver forms electronically.  Also, please take the time to verify that all other required forms have been completed. You can find these forms on line by:

You should now be in PowerSchool.  Click on the blue "Click here to access the Enrollment  Packet Forms or to update student information."
There are multiple forms you can click to update, but the required forms are the two on the bottom  - "FERPA" and "General Waiver"
 


Bus Information
The 2017-2018 bus route information can be retrieved from the district's website prior to the beginning of the school year.
 
The third week of August, when bus routes have been finalized, go to the  LISD home page  and look for the 'Quick Links' heading on the right side of the page. Then click on 'Bus  Routes,' listed underneath. You may also access the routes from the home page by selecting Departments /  Transportation  / Bus Routes.
 
When the new screen appears, type in your child's street address and select 'Search'. Route information will appear, including the stop location and times, along with a map. Route information is available only for those students who have requested transportation.
 
If you would like your child to ride the bus this year and have not already made the request through PowerSchool or need to make changes to your request for bus service (using instructions that were emailed at the end of last year), please make those changes in PowerSchool or alternatively contact the Transportation Department directly.

Lovejoy ISD Pre-Kindergarten
Lovejoy ISD is accepting applications for tuition-based Pre-Kindergarten. This comprehensive program will be staffed by credentialed teachers and housed on the Puster Elementary School campus.  This program will offer enhancements in music, fitness, art, library, science, technology, engineering, and math. We are enthusiastic to provide a Lovejoy education for community members looking for a rich learning experience which will provide a firm foundation for kindergarten and beyond.

Tom Landry Classic:  September 2
Lovejoy will open the 2017 football season in the Tom Landry Classic against the #2 state
ranked Argyle Eagles on Saturday, September 2nd at 7:00 PM at Allen Eagle Stadium.
Founded in 2000, the Tom Landry Classic was created to honor the legacy of legendary NFL Coach, Tom Landry.  This scholarship event awards students for their commitment to academic excellence, leadership among their peers, and service to their community.
Leopard fans are invited to bring their extended family, friends, and neighbors so we can fill our side of the stadium and support all of the students participating in the event.  The greater the number of attendees, the more scholarships Lovejoy students will receive.  We hope to see you on the 2nd.


Lovejoy Hockey Fundraiser:  August 31
Please join the Lovejoy Hockey Team at Chipotle on Thursday, August 31st from 4:00 -8:00 PM.  Let the cashier know you are with Lovejoy Hockey and 50% of your purchase price will be donated to help the team pay for their banquet, scholarships for seniors, and equipment.  The Lovejoy Hockey program appreciates the support of the community.Click here for additional information.


Gifted and Talented Referrals for 2017-2018
The referral window for gifted and talented services is now open. Click here for referral forms which are located online in the PowerSchool Parent Portal.  The window will close September 8, 2017.
Testing is scheduled for Saturday, September 16 and 23 for students in grades 1-12. Kindergarten students will be tested at a later date.
A brief information session will review the gifted and talented referral process and services offered in Lovejoy.

Lovejoy ISD is adding text messaging capability to SchoolMessenger, the system we use for phone calls and email communications for information such as school closings due to inclement weather. SchoolMessenger will be configured to send text messages to your wireless phone number(s), with your approval. Please confirm we have your accurate wireless phone number in the PowerSchool Parent Portal and then opt-in to participate by following the directions below.

In order to receive messages from Lovejoy ISD or your student's school via SMS text we must have your wireless number(s) in SchoolMessenger and receive an "Opt-In Confirmation" from your wireless device.

You can easily opt-in by simply sending "Y" (or "Yes"), via text message, to our SchoolMessenger Short Code number 67587.
