CENAC Update
(Community Environment & Noise Advisory Committee)

On September 27th attended the scheduled CENAC meeting which focused on the Helios Study.   I spoke to a number of points outlined in the study.  In general, I am disappointed in the findings.  There are no recommendations for a complete reprieve of night time flights and no consideration to restrict shoulder hours (7pm to midnight and 6am to 10am) which have the greatest impact on Mississauga residents.  As well, there is no recommendation to keep the north south runway use at the current 5% or less for weather related or emergency use only.

I am equally disappointed to hear at the meeting that Helios did not study the noise monitors physically placed in several locations in Ward 3.  This is extremely alarming as the decibal level in some locations exceed 65!

On a positive note, Helios recommends CENAC meetings be held in the community and Chaired by members of the community rather than holding the meetings at the GTAA offices and Chaired by CENAC.  I have been asking for this change for several years and glad to see it has been recognized as an important benefit to the affected communities.   Unfortunately, this and other positive recommendations have been scheduled for implementation in the next 5 - 10 years wherein, I feel they could most certainly be implemented immediately.
