Water Authority, Solana Center Team Up to Offer Discounted Rain Barrels
 
The Water Authority and its 24 member agencies, in partnership with the Solana Center for Environmental Innovation, are encouraging more people to save water this winter with special discounts on rain barrels.

Residents can order 50-gallon rain barrels through the Solana Center for $90 each (discounted from $149). Then, residents can maximize their savings by applying for a $75 rain barrel rebate (maximum two rebates per address) from SoCalWaterSmart through Dec. 31. The Solana Center will offer four pick-up locations for the rain barrels around the county during December.

Discounted rain barrels must be pre-ordered at www.rainbarrelprogram.org/sandiego .
Pipe Repair
Maintenance and Inspection of Regional Pipelines Under Way
 
The Water Authority's Asset Management Program performs periodic inspections of all pipelines to maintain the reliability of the water delivery s ystem. Staff from the Operations and Maintenance Department are working around the county to perform maintenance and inspect pipes, valves, facilities and other infrastructure for damage, corrosion and other signs of deterioration.

This month, crews are completing a warranty inspection near State Route 76 on a recently relined pipeline. Other crews are performing maintenance in East County in preparation for a pipeline relining project scheduled to begin in late 2017.
The Water Authority coordinates with its 24 member agencies to ensure regular water deliveries are not interrupted during inspections.

The Seaside Courier on Nov. 7 published a commentary by Water Authority Board Chair Mark Muir about seeking cost-effective solutions for the Bay-Delta.

"The San Diego region likely would be on the hook for at least $1 billion, even though the region has been steadily decreasing its reliance on Bay-Delta supplies over the past two decades," Muir said.
