Seventy-Four Palm Beach County Schools Earn Florida's 'Five Star School Award' for Outstanding Parent, Community Involvement

The Florida Department of Education has announced the names of schools that have earned the Five Star School Award for the 2016-2017 school year, and the School District of Palm Beach County is home to 74 schools on the list.
 
The Five Star School Award is given to schools that are committed to incorporating family and community members into the school environment to enhance student learning.  Read more...

Twenty-Six Palm Beach County Schools Recognized as Models of Positive Behavior Support
Several School District of Palm Beach County schools have been recognized as model schools by Florida's Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support Project for the 2016-2017 school year, for their efforts in implementing Positive Behavior Support framework (PBS).
 
To be eligible to become a model school, schools had to demonstrate how they implement the PBS initiative, and outline the support systems and strategies they have in place to ensure successful outcomes.  Read more...

See My Success - Dreyfoos School of the Arts Senior Hits All the Right Notes on Campus and in the Community
 
Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts senior Bernardo Hasbach is a talented pianist who boasts a 3.97 GPA and 5.0 HPA.
 
"I do take a lot of pride in how much work I put into school, because I really want to do the best that I can," he says.
 
In addition to his academic studies and knack for the piano, Hasbach is the co-founder of a unique non-profit organization. He started the " School Lunch Fairy" program with a friend in an effort to help less fortunate students be able to pay for their school lunches. The organization has raised over $20,000 to offset the cost of lunches for students thus far.  Read more...

Studying Abroad - Seminole Ridge High School Students Set to Take Their Studies to Iceland
 
Shawna Ahmad's AICE Marine Science students at Seminole Ridge High School are gearing up for the trip - and lesson -  of a lifetime. They've been recreating the geothermal spas of Iceland in the classroom, and next month, they'll travel 3,700 miles to get an up close look at the real thing.
 
Over Thanksgiving break, 11 Seminole Ridge students will travel to the island nation to study plate tectonic theory; observing geysers, glaciers and the Icelandic coastline. Read more...

Don't Miss These Important Events!

Parents and students will soon have an opportunity to learn about the 310 Choice Programs offered through the School District of Palm Beach County at the annual Showcase of Schools.  

On Tuesday, October 17 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Expo Center at the South Florida Fairgrounds, representatives from 114 different campuses will be available to answer questions about the strengths and educational opportunities offered at each of their schools.  Read more...  



The District will host its  2018 College and Career Fair from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, at the  South Florida Fairgrounds, Concourse Buildings 6 - 10. Representatives from more than 150 colleges, universities, trade schools and the armed forces will be in attendance to provide families with information on a wide variety of postgraduate programs and opportunities available to students. Parents are encouraged to attend one of the "How to Start Your FAFSA" sessions that will be offered every 15 minutes throughout the evening.
