Greetings everyone!
 
The CITT/ICTS Rendez-vous 27th Annual Conference and Trade Show in Saint John, New Brunswick, was such a wonderful event! The historical picturesque atmosphere of Saint John was refreshing; we felt comfortable in this small and vibrant Atlantic city. Our hosts, the magnificent Imperial Theatre along with the energetic Saint John Theatre Company, took hospitality to a new level and we felt so welcome and at home. The opening night Junk Challenge set the tone with a Tall Ship theme and the question: but will it sail?
 
The conference was smaller and allowed us to introduce new projects and incorporate new program ideas. One of them was the caucus meetings and the caucus plenary breakfast. On Thursday morning, the board members hosted caucus meetings to gather sessions and workshop topics for future conferences. Then on Saturday morning, each board member presented the list of those ideas. What came out of those meetings was the need to create more caucuses including Network Integration and Events/Festivals. A third one, Student Caucus, came from discussing with the student volunteers on how to better reach out to more students throughout the country.

I hosted the Brown Bag Lunch Talk to present a new certification program on safety skills called European Theatre Technician Education (ETTE) currently active in 4 countries (Belgium, Germany, Sweden and The Netherlands). The goal is to expand this program internationally so that it be recognized around the world, internationally. A hands-on presentation of this program is planned at the USITT conference next March in Fort Lauderdale Florida, and we are looking to send a small CITT/ICTS delegation to discover this program in hopes of eventually implementing it in Canada.
CITT/ICTS also presented its new Mentorship Network program, which has been in the making since 2015. Thanks to Robert Vernon and Michael Harris who spearheaded the mentorship committee in drafting this program that we plan to launch this fall. Stay tuned for that! 

The delegates were treated to exceptional historical sessions with the Masonic Scenery Design presented by Wendy Waszut-Barrett, the Česky Krumlov Baroque Theatre Scenery and Machinery with Peter Perina, and Peter McKinnon continued the voyage with his session on Sailors and Stagehands.
 
We happily welcomed back Jenny Knott of Rosco, who gave a 2.5-day painting workshop on scenic historic techniques along with her colleague Wendy. Rick Boychuk moderated a panel discussion on Major System Renovations in Existing Theatres.
 
Morgan Myler of IATSE 58 explained how to implement a good rescue plan while Matthew Reicker discussed all the different lighting protocols that are used today (and there are many!)
 
Heather Lamb chaired the Ladies of the Backstage roundtable discussion and offered a special tour of the Moosehead Brewery complete with beer tasting and a souvenir 150 th Anniversary glass!
 
Don Parman of Actsafe in BC animated a half-day Safety Awareness workshop and shared centre stage with Angela Drainville during the Roadhouse Roundtable Large Event discussion. The Education Forum was revived by board members Esther Van Eek and John Raymond. 
Over 15 exhibitors filled the Imperial stage for the Thursday afternoon trade show, which followed a gorgeous sun-filled corporate BBQ luncheon in the King Square park just outside the Imperial. Our corporate members offered training on the newest technologies, including Microphone techniques for the theatre (GerrAudio), Wireless lighting controls with W-DMX (TMB), Introduction to MA dot 2 (A.C.T. Lighting) and Prolyte Truss unravelled (A.C. Lighting).
 
Our annual fundraising event Swag Bingo raised over $3000 which will helps support the Student Volunteer Program as well as the following charities: The AFC and Behind the Scenes. The CITT/ICTS Awards Banquet brought us all together to honour and celebrate our peers – you can read more about the recipients in the article below. The 27 th conference closed with traditional songs performed by Elder Maggie Paul who then invited us to form a huge circle around the ballroom and hold hands for a harmonious come-together singalong and dance. It was simply amazing.

Bonjour à tous !

Le 27 e Rendez-vous CITT/ICTS conférence annuelle et salon professionnel tenu à Saint-Jean Nouveau Brunswick fut un événement formidable ! L'atmosphère pittoresque et historique de Saint-Jean était rafraîchissante ; nous nous sentions à l'aise dans cette petite ville animée de l'Atlantique. Nos hôtes, le magnifique Imperial Theatre , ainsi que l’énergique Saint John Theatre Company , ont fait de l'hospitalité un nouveau niveau et nous nous sommes senti les bienvenus et chez soi. La soirée d'ouverture Bric-à-Brac a donné le ton avec le thème sur des grands voiliers et la question : Mais, vogueront-ils ?

La conférence, plus petite qu’à l’habitude, nous a permis de présenter de nouveaux projets et d'incorporer de nouvelles idées de programmation . L'une d'entre elles fut les réunions des caucus disciplinaires et le déjeuner plénier des caucus. Le jeudi matin, les membres du conseil d'administration ont animé les réunions des caucus pour rassembler des sujets d'ateliers pour de futures conférences. Ensuite, le samedi matin, chaque membre du conseil a présenté la liste de ces idées lors du déjeuner. Ce qui a résulté de ces réunions, c'est la nécessité de créer davantage de caucus, y compris un sur l’intégration des réseaux et un sur les événements/festivals . Un troisième, le caucus étudiant , s’est crée suite à une discussion avec les étudiants bénévoles sur comment rejoindre davantage d’étudiants à travers le pays.

J'ai animé le dîner « sac à lunch » pour présenter un nouveau programme de certification sur les compétences en sécurité appelé European Theater Technician Education (ETTE) actuellement actif dans 4 pays (Belgique, Allemagne, Suède et Pays-Bas). L'objectif est d'étendre ce programme à l'échelle internationale afin qu'il soit reconnu dans le monde entier. Une présentation pratique de ce programme est prévue lors de la conférence USITT en mars prochain à Fort Lauderdale en Floride, et nous voulons envoyer une petite délégation du CITT/ICTS pour découvrir ce programme dans l'espoir de le mettre en œuvre au Canada.
Le CITT/ICTS a également présenté son nouveau programme le Réseau de mentorat , en développement depuis 2015. Merci à Robert Vernon et Michael Harris qui ont dirigé le comité de mentorat dans création de ce programme que nous prévoyons lancer cet automne. Restez à l'écoute pour plus de détails ! 

Les délégués ont été choyés par diverses ateliers historiques exceptionnelles dont la conception de décor maçonnique présenté par Wendy Waszut-Barrett, la machinerie et la peinture du théâtre baroque Česky Krumlov avec Peter Perina, et Peter McKinnon a poursuivi son voyage avec sa présentation sur les matelots et les machinistes . 

Nous avons accueilli de nouveau Jenny Knott de Rosco , qui a donné un atelier de peinture de 2,5 jours sur des techniques scéniques historiques en compagnie de sa collègue Wendy, et Rick Boychuk a modéré une table ronde sur les rénovations majeures des systèmes techniques dans les théâtres existants .

Morgan Myler de l’AIEST 58 a expliqué comment mettre en œuvre un bon plan de sauvetage alors que Matthew Reicker a discuté de tous les différents protocoles d'éclairage utilisés aujourd'hui (et il y en a beaucoup !)

Heather Lamb a présidé la tables ronde des dames des coulisses et a offert une visite spéciale de la brasserie Moosehead avec dégustation de bieres et un verre souvenir de leur 150e anniversaire!

Plus de 15 exposants ont rempli la scène de l’Imperial Theatre pour le salon professionnel du jeudi après-midi, qui a suivi un magnifique BBQ au parc King's Square juste en face de l'Imperial. Nos membres corporatifs ont offert des formations sur les technologies les plus récentes, y compris les techniques de microphone pour le théâtre (GerrAudio), les commandes d'éclairage sans fil avec W-DMX (TMB), Introduction à MA dot2 (A.C.T. Lighting) et Prolyte Truss dévoilé (A.C. Lighting) .

Notre activité annuelle de collecte de fonds lors du butin bingo a recueilli plus de 3000 $, ce qui aide à financer le programme de bénévolat étudiant ainsi que les charités suivantes : l'AFC et Behind the Scenes. Le banquet des prix CITT/ICTS nous a réunis pour honorer et célébrer nos pairs - vous pouvez en savoir plus sur les lauréats dans l'article ci-dessous. La 27 e conférence s'est terminée par des chants traditionnels interprétés par l’aînée Maggie Paul qui nous a par la suite invité à former un grand cercle autour de la salle et à se tenir les mains pour chanter et danser en harmonie. C'était tout simplement magique.

At the 27 th CITT/ICTS Rendez-vous, over 80 delegates at the 27th CITT/ICTS Rendez-vous gathered for cocktails and dinner at Delta Saint John Trinity Royal ballroom on Saturday August 12 th to honour our peers at the annual CITT/ICTS Awards Banquet . Created in 1998, the CITT/ICTS awards are designed to honour individuals and companies from a wide spectrum of the Canadian live performance community. The nomination of candidates for the CITT/ICTS awards is driven directly by the membership with the final selection made by the Awards Committee. Read more
Plus de 80 délégués du 27 e Rendez-vous du CITT/ICTS étaient réunis dans la salle Trinity Royal au Delta Saint John le samedi 12 août pour cette soirée de reconnaissance et de célébration. Créés en 1998, les prix CITT/ICTS visent à honorer des personnes et des entreprises provenant de toute la communauté canadienne du spectacle.
