Where in the world (yes, world)
is the EYC "travel bug" ?
Geocaching is a world-wide treasure hunt game played by millions. In 2009, a geocache was established at Saint Paul's to get geocachers to visit and learn about the church. When the geocache was placed at the church, the EYC released a "travel bug," a trackable item that geocachers move from cache to cache, that they could watch move around the world. Within a few days of release, the EYC travel bug was off and traveling in route to its stated destination, Saint Paul's Cathedral in London, UK (and other churches named for St. Paul). Then suddenly, it stopped. A person had picked up the EYC travel bug and did not place it in another cache. Months went by and nothing; it was assumed lost.

Fast-forward to 2017, when the EYC travel bug began moving again. The geocacher that had picked the travel bug up in 2009 sent a note stating that they had been in poor health for some time and just recently began getting out to hunt for geocaches again. The EYC travel bug left the south east for Michigan, then to the western US, and is now traveling around Europe. The EYC travel bug has been to the Portuguese Island of Madeira, Hungary, Belgium, Germany, and France. As of October 4th, it was located in Campania, Italy.  It has logged more than 23,000 travel miles, most of that since March 2017. As it continues to see the world, the EYC travel bug will bring a little enjoyment to geocachers as it passes from one hand to the next. We can't wait to see where the Saint Paul's EYC travel bug's adventure takes it next.

This year, two of Saint Paul's parishioners will be participating as featured "spirits" in the tour. William "Chip" Lamb will portray the Reverend William Henry Clarke (1820-1877), who was a widely beloved and respected Rector of Saint Paul's Church that served through the Civil War until his untimely death at the beside of a parishioner. He is buried in the crypt beneath the altar. Catherine Robertson will also portray her ancestor, Sarah Hudson Barnes (d. 1794), who was the wife of George Barnes, an Irish immigrant and wine merchant that served as a "Chairman of the Vestry" at Saint Paul's. The church is built over their graves.

From the Augusta Chronicle:
Eight Over 80: Meet eight local faces who have made Augusta a better place

"Earlier this summer, Augusta Chronicle columnist Bill Kirby suggested it would be fun to come up with an Eight Over 80 list, one that would showcase some local men and women who have "made and continue to make Augusta the best place to live and work - our Senior Class, so to speak."

And readers responded with many nominations, some submitting lists of many names. So, to start, here are Eight Over 80 we'd like to you to know, in the off chance you haven't already heard of them."

We think you'll have heard of at least 3 of them.  Click here to read the full article in the Chronicle.
Bond Distinguished Athletes Award
"The Bond Distinguished Athletes Award was created to honor Tiger athletes who exemplify character, citizenship and service. ... This year's distinguished athlete exemplifies the characteristics that the Bonds had in mind when they first conceived the award.  Highly-skilled surgeon, humanitarian, athlete, veteran, community leader, proud family man and proud Clemson Tiger...all these aptly describe Randy Smith, M.D."
