Denver CC's Braga Repeats as Colorado PGA Women's Champion

As Herman's Hermits famously sang more than 50 years ago, "Second verse, same as the first." The second playing of the Colorado PGA Women's Championship looked a lot like the first, at least regarding the top of the leaderboard. Like in 2016, Alexandra Braga from Denver Country Club won the championship. Like last year, she led after each round. And just as in 2016, she prevailed by three strokes.

Six Colorado PGA Members to Highlight Teaching and Coaching Workshop 

An incredible list of Colorado PGA Professionals will present during the inaugural Colorado PGA Fall Teaching and Coaching Workshop. The members include past Teachers of the Year, West Chapter Award winners and nationally recognized instructors. Included in the list of presenters are: Luke Brosterhous, PGA, Catamount Ranch and Club; Steve Beach, PGA, Glenmoor Country Club; Nick Clearwater, PGA, GOLFTEC; Don Hurter, PGA, Castle Pines Golf Club; Trent Wearner, PGA, Trent Wearner Golf Academy and Ed Oldham, PGA, The Ranch Country Club.

Registration is now open for the 2017 National Car Rental Las Vegas Pro Am presented by Colorado Golf and Turf! The event will be played Monday-Wednesday, November 11-13, 2017, at the Paiute Golf Resort. Entry into the event includes two nights stay at Treasure Island Hotel and Casino, transportation to and from the golf course daily, breakfast prior to each round of the event and more fun games and contests than ever before!

The entry fee is $3,900 per team ($975 per Amateur, $0 per Professional). This event uses 5-person teams -- 4 amateurs and 1 professional.

Hackenberg, Witczak Shine During Eclipse at Greeley CC Pro Am

Brian Hackenburg and Jason Witczak finished tied for first at the Greeley Country Club Pro Am on Monday, August 21, 2017. Both players posted an even-par 70 to grab first place honors.

PGA REACH Named an Official Charity Partner of 2017 TCS New York City Marathon

PGA REACH, the 501(c)(3) charitable foundation of the PGA of America, whose mission is to impact lives through golf, has been named an Official Charity Partner of the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon.  More than 350 official charity partners will be part of the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon, which offers a unique and wide-reaching platform to raise awareness for important causes, such as PGA REACH.

MSR Cycle Ends June 15, 2018

We are in the last year of MSR Cycle 15A which ends as of June 15, 2018. Currently there are 14,200+/- (23.68%) Members who have not yet recertified. MSR credits must be met for both categories; PGA Required and Total MSR by June 15, 2018. Failure to meet the complete PGA Required and the Total MSR requirements by June 15, 2018, will result in the member being reclassified to Class F as of July 1, 2018. Members classified F on July 1, 2018, will need to earn the deficit credits plus an amount equal to the deficit prior to the end on MSR Cycle 16A to avoid being dropped from the active membership rolls.

CGA Super-Senior Stroke Play - Albrecht Fends Off Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Moore to Win His First CGA Championship

On Wednesday, Gary Albrecht capped off a 72-hour stretch of golf that he won't soon forget. On Sunday, the Denver resident won the open-division club championship at CommonGround Golf Course, which is no small feat for a 61-year-old. Three days later, Albrecht fended off a stiff challenge by Colorado Golf Hall of Famer -- and defending champion -- Kent Moore of Cherry Hills Country Club to earn a title in a CGA championship for the first time.

City Park Golf Course Lawsuit Trial Poses the Question

A lot of hot-button issues surround a legal challenge of Denver's plan to reconfigure City Park Golf Course and install a stormwater detention area, including the project's connection to the controversial Interstate 70 project. But a trial that started Monday in Denver District Court is exploring a core question that's pretty simple: Does the drainage project violate the Denver city charter's rule that designed parks can't be used for non-park purposes?

This Former Blaine Golfer has been Making it Look Easy as a Professional

Former Blaine standout golfer Ryan Wallen finished tied for second with Taylor Montgomery at the Rocky Mountain Open Sunday on the Tiara Roado Golf Course in Grand Junction, Colorado. Wallen, a graduate of the University of Wyoming, shot a final-round best 63 (8-under) Sunday to finish the three-day tournament 13-under - just 2 strokes behind winner Justin Kelley. Wallen had only one bogey in his final two rounds against 12 birdies and one eagle, as he earned $4,400.

Tulsa Bound

Sixteen more junior golfers punched their tickets to the Regional round of qualifying for the Drive, Chip & Putt Championship through a Sub-Regional held Saturday at Walnut Creek Golf Course in Westminster.  It's the first time two Sub-Regionals have been conducted in Colorado in the same year as CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora hosted one last weekend.

Billy Payne Stepping Down as Chairman of Augusta National

William Porter "Billy" Payne is stepping down after more than 11 years as chairman of Augusta National Golf Club.
 
Payne, who turns 70 on Oct. 13, will serve his last day as chairman three days later, with Fred Ridley, the current chairman of the competition committees, becoming the new chairman on Oct. 16.

Fred Ridley, a former U.S. Amateur champion and past president of the U.S. Golf Association, has been elected chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament. Ridley, 65, succeeds outgoing chairman Billy Payne, the club announced Wednesday morning.

PGA Tour Gets New Sponsor for Winners-only Kapalua Event

Wisconsin-based Sentry Insurance has agreed to a five-year deal to become the title sponsor of the winners-only PGA Tour event at Kapalua. The move strengthens the tour's commitment to starting the new year in Hawaii.
