The Indian Craft Shop is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30p.m., and the third Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Shop is closed on federal holidays.

VISITING US
|
|
A photo ID is needed for entrance to the building. During weekdays, visitors may use either the
C Street or E Street entrances (E Street is closer for Metro riders). Handicap access ramps are available at both entrances. During Saturday hours, visitors must use the C Street entrance.
|
|
Public Transportation
Farragut West (Blue, Orange, and Silver Line) and Farragut North (Red Line) are the closest metro stops. It is a six-block walk, or you can ride an 80 or S1 bus to 19th and C streets. There is metered parking on the street and several parking lots within a few blocks.

The Indian Craft Shop - November 15, 2016
|
November has been a full month and we're halfway through already! As they say, the life is busy and the time is flying by! We hope you are all doing well and look forward to seeing you.
We've been enjoying receiving new works as the Shop fills in for the season. We've also enjoyed the commemorations for National Native American Heritage Month and Veteran's Day and are looking forward to our artist visits this week on November 18th & 19th. Then it's soon-to-be Thanksgiving where we can all stop to take time with family/friends. We wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving and look forward to seeing you as part of our extended family when you visit the Shop!

Eddie Morrison (Cherokee), Earl Plummer (Navajo) and
George Willis (Choctaw)
We're really excited about having three of your favorite artists in at the same time! Not only has each artist been an ICS highlighted artist but for nearly twenty years, we've been representing their work here at the Shop.
Eddie Morrison
has won numerous awards in juried competitions for his sculpture, was our highlighted Artist of the Month in August of 2000 and was awarded and named by the Cherokee Nation a
Cherokee National Treasure in 2014. Eddie has dedicated his lifetime to carving and sculpting, bringing the beauty of stone and wood to the form of animal and human sculptures with a powerful presence.
Eddie will be bringing his latest works and will also be signing copies of
They Call Me Eddie Morrison, Cherokee National Treasure written by Bill Keith with a forward by Principal Chief Bill John Baker; Pelican Publishing Company, Louisiana, 2016.

Earl Plummer
has won numerous awards in juried competitions for
his exceptional lapidary, metalsmithing and design skills.
Elegant channel inlay and 'cobblestone' inlay jewelry are just a couple of samples of the fruit of labor from this talented artist.
We can't wait to see Earl's new jewelry as it seems we can hardly keep it in the Shop when we do get new work in! Take a look at some of Earl's current jewelry at the Shop

George Willis
is another award-winning artist with a lifetime of juried artist showings and honors for his innovative jewelry created with the lost wax casting method. George is known for his unique designs including asymmetrical silverwork and settings of unique stones and materials.

What's New in the Shop and Online
|
We've received much of our Alaskan walrus ivory and whalebone carvings along with beadwork, jewelry, sandpaintings and some new 'small gift' items including the most precious little newborn baby moccasin and dreamcatcher sets!

Future Programs at the Department of the Interior Library
The Department of the Interior Library is proud to present a number of free programs to both Interior Department staff and the public. They include our Park Ranger Speaker Series programs and our DOI Library Training Sessions. Our monthly Park Ranger Speaker Series highlights the background and history of sites of interest in the Washington, DC region, as well as subjects highlighting the history of the United States. Our Training Sessions introduce DOI employees and others to the Library's services and to the information sources it makes available either through Interior staff computers or an in-person visit to the Library. Murals Tours
Discover the art and architecture that made the Stewart Lee Udall Department of the Interior Building a "symbol of a new day" during the Great Depression.
Tours are offered at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
