Sixty-ton dump trucks and skip-loader tractors lumbered around car-size dirt mounds as NFL officials and Inglewood leaders gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning at the 2019 home of the Los Angeles Rams.
Already, nearly 2 million cubic yards of earth have been moved to ready the 298-acre lot for development of Los Angeles' first built-to-order football stadium. When it's all done, officials say 8 million cubic yards of dirt will have been moved between Prairie Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard, adjacent the Forum.
Rams owner Stan Kroenke and National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell joined Mayor James Butts and Hall-of-Famers Jack Youngblood and Eric Dickerson to ceremonially shovel some soil for above-ground construction at what is billed as much more than a $2.6 billion stadium. Current Rams Aaron Donald and Johnny Hekker also attended.
