FRESHMEN RETREAT

On Friday, September 29th, the Freshmen enjoyed an all-day retreat at the Basilian Spirituality Center.  The theme for the day was "Answering Christ's Call".  The students enjoyed song, prayer, discussion, quiet time, and a talk from our chaplain Father Peter.  They all celebrated the Liturgy together in the convent Chapel, as well as had the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It was a beautiful day of rest and retreat!

PILGRIMAGE TO THE MOTHER OF  GOD

The SBA Freshman Class of 2021 represented Saint Basil Academy at the 86th Annual Pilgrimage to the Mother of God on Sunday, October 1. Invited by the Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great, this newest class shared the experience of the beautiful moleben service to the Blessed Mother with many members of the Ukrainian Catholic Church community.  They received a special greeting and blessing from the Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in the US, who underscored how enriching their youthful energetic presence was to the prayer experience of all.

PARENTS' CLUB PRESENTATION

Principal Connie D'Angelo presented to parents at the Parents' Club meeting on October 5 about two highly regarded books in the area of education and psychology.   Grit  written by Angela Duckworth, focuses on the need for children to be given practice and opportunity to develop persistence, passion, and a "stick-to-it" attitude in life. The trait of grit, the author explains, is a great indicator of success more so than IQ.   Quiet  written by Susan Cain explains the benefits of introverted people and their ability to be extremely successful leaders. Check out the video on  Grit  for more information.

COMMUNITY DAY

Community Day was a wonderful day during which our students, teachers, and staff members traveled to various sites in the community. Some of these places included Saint Joseph's Manor, Habitat Restore, Holy Redeemer School, Morrison School, Children's Village, Face to Face, Rydal Park, Briar Bush Nature Center, and the Breathing Room Foundation. Our girls did a tremendous job, and the recipients of our help were most appreciative for their kind work! Please read the thank you note below, which was sent to SBA from Children's Village.   This is a just one example of how SBA students live out the Sisters of Saint Basil mission: responding to and providing a life-giving presence by serving others.
